I think all the schools and the conference office are starting to get on the same page. I like moving the Toledo game up.

Re: 2010 Football Schedule
They need to move it up to October sometime.

Re: 2010 Football Schedule
Not that excited by this schedule...
1. Only two home games before Oct 23. So realistically, with the crappy weather around here, only two Saturdays where you can hope to not have to see how cold it is going to be to know how many layers to wear to the game.
2. Don't like the Toledo game where it is. Make it the last game or move it up to a Saturday in Oct. A Wednesday in Nov is not conducive to a road trip.
3. Finishing with two games against West division teams. Playing Toledo at the end of the season was fine with me because it is a rivalry game, but I'd like to be facing teams in our own divison with a chance to determine the title on the line.
4. How do we draw Central as a crossover game two years in a row? Why not Northern or Eastern instead?
5. Starting the season with two road games when we will be starting a new QB and a lot of new players on defense. Would have liked to get an easy home game under their belt early to help establish some confidence.
That's it, no more complaining about it.
When does Spring practice start?

Re: 2010 Football Schedule
This schedule is tough:
Two road games against spread offense for a young team is going to hard (Tulsa and Troy)
Then Mich and Marshall (Lucky if were 1-3)
Temple and Central ( two tough games both away games)
WOW!
I think the Miami game on Wed. will have an great atmosphere... tons of students
The comment about the other games homecoming and parents week will be great draws always are
Marshall will bring lot of people a saturday opener....
I think this is an outstanding schedule (tough) and our AD did a great job.

TOLEDO GAME MAY NOT BE THE SATURDAY AFTER THANKSGIVING, BUT ONCE AGAIN WE SCHEDULE A GAME THE DAY AFTER THANKSGIVING, ON A FRIDAY, WHILE STUDENTS ARE GONE, AGAINST WESTERN MICHIGAN, A TEAM THAT DOESN'T TRAVEL WELL. LUCKY IF WE GET 6000 TO THIS GAME. ARGHHHH

I like having a bunch of Saturday games early, but I see the MAC is still whoring itself out to maybe possibly if we're lucky getting to be put on the Ocho at 6 PM on a Wednesday...WOOOHOOO :rolleyes
And I have ALWAYS defended the UT game on the Friday after Thanksgiving. The attendance figures for that were always strong, and a lot of students would come back to see that game. It was the rivalry game, and it was easy to get pumped and excited about it on the holiday.
WMU on that day? *BLECH* Who the eff cares about a cross over game against a non-rival on the biggest shopping day of the year...and oh yeah it'll be cold?
STUPID STUPID STUPID. I can't see students returning in droves for that game...maybe if we're undefeated at the time we'll get some attendance, but I would expect to see less than 5k people in the stands for that one.

Re: 2010 Football Schedule
The day after thanksgiving has always been a tough time for a game. However, Toledo at least forced people to care to show up. Nobody will show up for Western unless something important is on the line. Either schedule Toledo that day, or nothing that day. Wake-up!
ROLL ALONG!!!
Re: 2010 Football Schedule
I was counting 6000 because of the season ticket holders, and parents of the players and the local townies. Originally I was going to say 4500 but I thought that number was a little too low and I figured the school will try and hand out tickets to the boy scouts, girl scouts, etc.
Re: 2010 Football Schedule
No to be a contrarian, but I couldn't care less what order they play MAC teams in, or whether it's snowing or warm outside. The hope is that the team will be playing meaningful games when the weather turns lousy. The '08 game against Buffalo proved that even a big game can't draw people out if the weather is inclement. Short of doming the Doyt, these are two areas which cannot be reconciled no matter if the game is or isn't on TV; if it is played the day after or before a holiday; or if students are on campus or not.

Re: 2010 Football Schedule
The weather is as much of a factor as you might think. The two biggest crowds in my lifetime...probably stadium history...were NIU in 2003 and Toledo in 1983. It rained on both of those days. They were two really important conference games played on a Saturday. I have said it before and I will say it again, the conference is hell bent on building a bigger footprint nationally by catering to ESPN while it shoots itself in the foot with the regional fan base.

It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

I don't disagree per se. But there is a total of 1 weeknight home game in 2010. There were 2 in 2009: the Troy game drew decently and the gate for Akron was similar to the Saturday CMU game. There was 1 home weeknight game in each of 2006, 2007, and 2008. IMHO, if the fan base can't handle that, then there isn't really much of a base.

Re: 2010 Football Schedule
I am kind of ticked about Toledo not being the day after Thanksgiving. I specifically asked for time off that day so I could see the Toledo game, assuming that it would be where it has been for the last few years. Now, I don't see myself being able to get to the Toledo game. I am definitely going to aim for the Marshall, Buffalo and Kent State games and I'm hoping to get tickets for the Michigan game as well (Paging Bob Dupont! Paging Bob Dupont!). All in all, it's nice to see a bunch of Saturday games, just wish the Miami game was as well. I'd love for game times to get posted at some point too!!!
