From the Cleveland Plain Dealer:
It would be nice if a reporter could at least try once in a while and get their info correct. Shafir is now part of the FALCONS???
Long walk: Naama Shafir, Toledo's 5-7 sophomore playmaker from Israel and possibly the first female Orthodox Jew to earn an NCAA Division I scholarship, will walk today from the team's hotel on Public Square to The Q instead of taking the team bus. For religious reasons, she can't ride in a motorized vehicle between sundown Friday and 18 minutes after sundown Saturday, according to a team spokesman.
So, Shafir, who was cleared by her rabbi to play in the MAC Tournament championship game against rival Bowling Green today at 1 p.m., will make the downtown stroll with an assistant coach. That's nothing compared with the 1.1-mile hike she had to make in subzero temperatures when the Falcons visited North Dakota in January. (Bowling Green warmed to the place anyway, winning 74-59.)

Wow...a reporter made a mistake....BFD. Your thread title is kind of mean and not really accurate. I, for one, wouldn't mind having Shafir on our team at all...
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

It reminds me of a story that the Toledo Free Press ran about Churchill's taking over the Perrysburg grocery store again. They were having a "meet" market. I zipped off a quick "nice proofreading" response to the reporter and Mike Miller wrote back to me how my ISP had a lot of mistakes on their website.
Yeah, so what? My ISP doesn't represent me, unlike the Toledo Free Press representing the TFP.
We solved the problem. After 3 exchanges he "thanked me for pointing out the error" and I agreed to never read the Free Press again. A win-win

+1 And I'm guessing Curt Miller would have a different take, more in line with Flipper's. You're becoming the new cowboyjoe, gm. Congrats. By the way if that reporter wants to give us Prochaska we'll take her.

Re: Shafir a Falcon: WE DONT WANT HER
aside from that d'bag, what happened with Pontius this year she was a real threat before, now not much pt.
As much as i cant stand BG, i hope they do well in the tourney, i hope we get into the NIT and win some more too

Re: Shafir a Falcon: WE DONT WANT HER
Wow. You tool my post the wrong way. All I was trying to say is that I wish for once a newspaper would proofread their work before posting as the reporter stated that Shafir led her Falcons to a win. And I should have said not wanting her rather than needing. We don't need Shafir when we have L.P, Nurse, Slagle and Pontius at the guard position, not to even our freshman girls.
As far as Pontius goes, her playing time has dropped as she is playing with a rupture in her achilles and more than likely will have some form of rehab or surgery at the end of the season. Her achilles injury is why her playing time has decreased and why she is a step slow and her shot is off.
Sorry for not being more clear in my original post. That aside, good luck to Toledo and I hope they get to host a home NIT game. With their renovated arena and fan base I think that should be a no brainer, but then again no one can be sure with the decisions these committees make.

Speaking of which.....
The thread of moving the tourney to Toledo, I realize that the tix for BG at UT were somewhat less, although not really with the promotions, there were only about 3600 listed for the MAC championship game.
Now UT and BG won't always play in the big game, but I wonder if we couldn't get more fans in the Lucas Co. Arena that 3600? I couldn't make it to Cleve this year, but I could have Toledo. Probably a selfish desire on my part, since I'm only 30 minutes away from the site. Anyway, we'll see in 2012 or whenever.
Who's the UT girl who's supposed to light up the league next year? Did she transfer or get injured this year?

I'm guessing you mean Andola Dortch. She redshirted I believe, due to injury but is on track to play next year.

+1 Shafir had a heck of game! She's going to be a tough competitor the next two years!! I'd be happier if she was a senior this year!!nwofalconfan wrote:Why would you post something like this...next time try to be as classy as the program you claim to support.
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."
