OHIO!!! Wow this team is fun to watch play!

Post by BGSU33 »

Wow! The Bobcats just put on a clinic against Georgetown the first half! These guys are simply just red hot. The run they had in the MAC Tournament was just amazing when you think about it, and now they're looking good so far in the NCAA Tournament. Whether they go on to win this game against Georgetown or not, think about this.... Ohio was picked last in the MAC East, is in the second year of a new head coach, lost its first four MAC games to begin 0-4 in conference play, then lost one of their tops players to injury - only to become the lowest seed in the MAC Tournament history to win the tournament, by having to not only win on the road in the opening round, but went through the #1, #3 & #4 seeds in the process! What's more, Ohio was 1-6 against the teams it beat in the MAC Tournament during the regular season after being swept by Kent & Akron, losing at home to Ball State and only split vs Miami winning the game they did on a buzzer-beater. Incredible! And this was supposed to be their down year! This will clearly be the team to beat next year and probably years to come and if they keep playing like this, Groce's stop in Athens won't be a long one.

They don't have a senior on the team. Everyone's back next year.

I thought Georgetown would come out on fire in the second half and get back in it. Then I thought they were going to get even when it got under 10. Every time I thought Georgetown was going to get back in it, Cooper or Bassett made a 3 or got to the basket. Very, very impressive performance.

I can't imagine OU shooting that well again so hopefully the defense shows up and they get another W.

They actually have one, van Kempen, but they won't miss him a beat. Their tempo, spacing and shooting has been excellent in the MAC Tournament and now NCAA Tournament. With this run, I hope someone plucks Groce after this year and that he goes. Hell, I wish someone would come to BG and wipe their feet just one season there winning a MAC Tournament and NCAA Tournament game. We'd probably name a street after them.

Way to go Bobcats!!! Crushed em!

Are they a one-trick pony or could they get on a run? How about an Ohio-Ohio State sweet 16 matchup hmmm?

I heard the Kellog boys are both going to be on the team next year! Geeze this was a fun game to watch, especially at the end because the GT fans were so quiet :-)

A most entertaining day in NCAA's.

Very cool, indeed. This team can go as far as the three-ball takes them. But how long can they shoot like that?

Now, the anouncers kept saying "OU was the 9 seed in the MAC tournament and they had a losing record (7-9) in conference." Granted it was one game, but what does it say about the MAC when our #9 conference team can punch the mighty Gorgetown in the teeth? I'll tell you what it says - Akron should have got in. This one bid stuff is junk. (End of rant).

Re: Akron.... "they should've gotten in".... over Kent? If a 2nd bid was available to the MAC, don't you think KSU deserved it after winning the reg. season title...kinda like the team that won the reg. season title a year ago?

Akron got knocked off in that new tournament...and played very tight games in the MAC tourn., caught a few breaks and got to the semis, but wasn't overly impressive IMO.... they didn't even look that great against us late in the season...

It was a truly dominating game by Ohio. If they can keep that level-headed mindset they should press through to the Sweet 16. If they go up against Ohio State, it adds a powerful dimension to the mix. It isn't just a S16 game, it is a game against OSU. Not exactly a rivalry game, but there will be an extra bit of motivation for both teams to win. What is more, I think OU could win, if they are playing like they did last night.

In any case, it was a powerful display by OU. They simply never were out of control.

If the MAC wants to start getting more than one bid to the tournament they should play (AND WIN) some worthwhile OOC games for a change.

Might be splitting hairs there.

Kent - finished 24-9, regular season title, but lost in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament (i.e. didn't win A game in its conference tournament).

Akron - finished 24 - 10 quater and semifinal wins, but lost in the conference final.

I'd probably give the edge to Akron there. But Akron/Kent were clearly the #1 and #2 teams in the MAC this year. And our #9 just took down the Big Least's #1 on a neutral floor. But they were both 20+ win teams and the best two teams in the league. I guess that's my point.

Whether it is football, or basketball, it is difficult for MAC teams to schedule a home OOC game against the major programs. The majors have bigger venues, and charge more per ticket. So the MAC's overall record in OOC games against the major schools doesn't look that good because it is harder to win as the away team.

The best part of the NCAA tournament is the neutral sites. The majors lose that home field advantage and huge fan support. The 1st round wins by 10 - 14 seed teams shows that many the smaller programs are just as good as the larger programs. Cornell is a prime example. They very well could have beat Kansas if the game was played at Cornell. Losing by 5 points at Kansas showed they are competitive with anyboby.

The sad thing about the teams and conferences that upset the apple cart in these tournaments is that the people who do the ratings have short memories. The Big East will still get lots of teams in the tournament, and the MAC will still get 1 team.

Go MAC
