The people who are able to just muscle it out there will max out on their distance very soon, and the throwers with proper technique will be able to pass them up very soon. Work on the technique, and then speed up the motions as you get more comfortable with it.
So true about technique. Looking forward to seeing Freakling1 in the meets.

Didn't place very high up, but it's only the first meet.

As a thrower, your goals for each meet should simply be to improve upon your previous mark. In shot, you should set a goal of 6-8 inches further than last meet. In disc, you should set a goal of 2-4 feet further. Between now and next meet, just work on improving your form. Your coach will take notice when your numbers steadily improve, and soon you will be among the top throwers on the team.
