7-round Mock --> Freddie to Carolina

Post by SidelineScouting »

Tonight we posted our first 7-round mock draft, including compensatory picks. We have Barnes going in the 7th round to Carolina Panthers. Seemed a little low, but with some of the other wide receivers moving up, its hard not to see him falling to the 6th-7th round right now.

Take a look and let me know what you guys think about it. Any feedback about the mock or the site would be great.

If you guys have a hard time finding rounds 2-7, all you have to do is go to the top, highlight “mock draft” with your cursor and there’s a drop down menu with each round.

Bare in mind, it is just a mock draft and even in real life, fans aren’t always happy with their team’s picks.

Overall looks like a pretty good effort on first glance. A couple comments:

As a Browns fan I could see Haden going at #7, but I hope you're wrong. I disagree somewhat with the notion that he didn't look slow on film. Perhaps he didn't, but after the slow 40 teams started digging a little deeper, and it sounds like UF did a lot of things schematically to cover up his lack of speed. I really don't think the guy is a top 10 CB at this point. Personally, much rather have Spiller, Clausen, or even Thomas at that pick.

Taylor Mays would be awesome value in the 2nd round for the Browns. I'm not super high on him, but in the 2nd round you'd have to take a chance. I've still seen him as a first rounder just about everywhere I look.

This is the first time I can remember seeing Mt. Cody in the first round. He seems to be all over people's boards though, so who knows.

I'd be VERY surprised to see Benn go ahead of DeMaryius Thomas as well. I've been seeing a lot of talk that teams are very high on him. If the Rams could add him at #33 to go along with Bradford I'd be INSANELY jealous of their draft.

Overall I think you've got the QBs too low. I think as the draft nears they'll rise due to positional value. I don't see McCoy lasting all the way to #48, and I don't see Tebow making it to #74. Also again as a Browns fan if they take Dan freaking LeFevour early in the 3rd I'll be livid. Especially if Tebow is on the board. I am NOT a fan of LeFevour at all. Lighting up the shitty MAC doesn't impress me much nowadays.

Have to say though that most of the picks make sense, good job. Every time I look at one of these mocks I'm just amazed by the depth of talent in this draft. Guys going off the board in the 3rd round could make a case to be mid-high 2nd rounders in other years. As for Barnes, I can't see him going off the board before the 6th-7th round. Really wouldn't be surprised if he were an UDFA.

Interesting stuff. I will just comment on the Bengals picks.

I like them all with the exception of the 2nd pick. No way do they take a receiving only TE like Hernandez. They already have one of those in Coffman and if they take a TE it will be someone like McCoy or Gronkowski.

As far as Antonio Bryant not being a number two WR I think thats inaccurate? I still like the Dez Bryant pick but i think your logic is faulty.

Thanks for the feedback.

I agree with most of your assessment hammb. I too think Demaryius Thomas has a good chance at being the #2 receiver being taken, had he not broken his foot, it would probably be a certainty. We also felt that the QBs were falling too far, but it was just a case where we'd discuss them almost every other pick, but they just didn't fit so they kept falling. Most notably, Tebow won't last until Jacksonville's 3rd round pick, he's likely a mid-2nd rounder, but I don't see a team that fits him there. wouldn't be surprised to see Jax trade up

Haden answered most of the questions about his speed at his pro day, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Hopefully teams don't either

Globetrotter, I agree they could use a "do-it-all" Tight end, but they havent had a receiving threat at TE in quite a few years and Hernandez would be an interesting addition. Coffman did absolutely nothing last year and isn't as good as hernandez.

Antonio Bryant is entering his 9th year in the league coming off a year where he had 36 catches, 600 yards, and 4 TD. He's only had 2, 1,000 yard seasons in his career and his numbers in 2008 were a bit inflated because of the lack of receiving threats on the roster so he was the only go-to target. At this point in his career, he's a good #3 and a below-average #2 in my opinion

I think you're probably right about the QBs. That's the tough part of doing a mock...you can't put trades in it...then it becomes too much like Madden. I do think, however, that teams will be moving around in that 2nd round range to secure the services of whichever QBs they prefer among Tebow, McCoy, and possibly even Pike (although his stock has really seemed to take a hit lately).

I am curious why you have the Browns taking LeFevour with several other QBs that you have ranked higher than him still available in the mock. Is there something that makes you believe they will value him higher the likes of Tebow, Pike, and Brown? My thinking on these guys is that I like all 3 of them better than LeFevour. Nobody is a sure thing, but I think the ceiling on them is much higher than LeFevour...I just can't see his arm ever projecting to an NFL starter.

Lefevour seems like the perfect Holmgren QB. That was the thinking, he's been moving up boards and I"ve heard he could go as high as early second round. Holmgrem seems to like those types of QBs, always has.

So they just give up on Coffman, who was injured all of last year, for a similar TE who doesnt block. No way. Also take a look at Antonio Bryants list of QBs during that time....and you claim that he was the only go to target 2 years ago? Who did they have last year?

I love the Lions' top two selections. With McNabb going to the Skins, that essentially cements Detroit in at #2. No one will come up to leap-frog WAS, as they now have a QB. That trade probably means the top 5 will not change.

Suh is a difference maker and will help, even the Lions. He is definitely the fans' choice at #2.

GM Martin Mayhew (played CB opposite Deion at FSU) is making some very good moves the past two off-seasons.

Ryan Matthews will provide much needed depth at RB.

The Lions just might win 5 games this year. Hey, for them, it's a huge step forward.

I'm looking forward to the draft on Thurs and Friday nights.
