I think the most important thing is to hire someone with HEAD coaching experience. Assistants with a great history of recruiting don't always work out so well, e.g. Paluch, DelCastillo at Alaska...

Don't the assistants handle most of the recruiting anyway?

Dream list for finalists for the job: Dennis Williams, Wayne Wilson, Todd Reirden

"This year marks the 20th anniversary of BG's last NCAA appearance, the drought primarily the result of the inability to recruit quality players. "
Our writer needs to get the facts right. I will also touch on Chrisotpers comment on Head Coaches. The drought primarily was the direct result of the University taking the money that was donated to and directly for the hockey program and diverting it to football, thusly not wanting to or willing to pay to keep top talent head coach like Jerry York around, or putting enough money in the program, as it was intended. We also followed exactly what Christopher was mentioning about hiring an assitant, ie Powers to be head coach.
At any rate we are moving forward, finally, and that beast of burden will never be on our backs again, ever again.

To be fair, Buddy had been pretty successful as a head coach at RPI before we hired him back.

Western Michigan has had three finalists on campus this week for interviews, highly regarded assistants for the most part although one of them has been a USHL head coach for one year.

Does anybody know how our own search is going?

Williams would fit the model on a number of levels. He will bring a youthful enthusiasm similar to that of Blasi at Miami. He has also shown an ability to deal with adversity this past season. And, his salary demands will most likely fit better within our athletic department budget compared to others out there. I wish Williams the best of luck as I think he can do great things, especially now with the renovations underway.

I would wager there will be some announcements and visits coming in the very near future.

I'm surprised that the search is going this quickly. I had heard some names of candidates who will be involved in the Frozen Four...would expect they'd wait after Detroit to talk to them...

from the Sentinel . . .

None of the candidates are expected to have a second interview, Knavel said.
"Anything is possible, but I don't foresee needing to bring anybody back again," Knavel said. "What is going on now is the final interview."

Hmmm. . . . curious

WE WANT WILLY!! WE WANT WILLY!! WE WANT WILLY!! WE WANT WILLY!!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

You mean like football coaches wait until after their bowl games to take a new job?
