If I were Irish, I would start arguing that Notre Dame had to change their name. Fighting Irish is just so derogatory and implies that all Irish are fighters.

Such BS !!! We should watch out, maybe falcons gives a bad name to the bird and some group will say it hurts their feelings because they raise falcons!!!

Let's just change all the college names to things like: sweethearts, lovers, sugar drops, sportmanshipers...

I've always felt bad for the UConn womens teams. Who wants to spend their college years being known as a husky bitch? :D

lol our falcons dont even kill to survive anymore like they did in the 80s! :tonqe:

on a more serious note: With the Fighting Sioux out of the way, its only a matter of time before the NCAA goes after the other UND and takes aim at the Fighting Irish!!

This decision is utter rubbish.

The NC$$ should stay the heck out of this and worry things like the graduation rates of its March Madness schools.

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Unfortunately, I have a feeling this will have a ripple effect that could spread into the professional ranks as "Redskins" is clearly the worst of them all. I mean, it's the Native American equivalent of the N-word. It's only a matter of time before the Chiefs, Braves, Indians and Chippewas are forced to change their names in the name of political correctness (crap).

Actually CMU and the Saginaw Chippewa tribe have a very strong, mutually supportive relationship. Part of freshman orientation is a presentation by the tribe elders explaining what it means to be a Chippewa and how to celebrate and honor that heritage. I don't see that in the pro sports examples and would have no problem with a change there, whether it be in team names or in the approach the teams take to their namesakes.

And that's the key. There's been a continual rub between the Standing Rock Sioux (opposed) and Spirit Lake Sioux (for) over the mascot ... even up to the ND Supreme Court. The NC$$ finally said enough. A few years ago they came down hard on Florida State, but back-pedaled like an all-pro linebacker when the Seminole tribe said "butt out." To quote the NC$$, "This decision applies to the unique relationship Florida State University has with the Seminole Tribe of Florida. Requests for reviews from other institutions will be handled on a case-by-case basis." I guess "offensive" isn't an absolute ... the offended must feel offended. That said, I wouldn't expect the Irish Consulate to file a grievance against Notre Dame any time soon.

Well then with that logic, a school with Rebel, would then require Rebels to be offended.
I am going to have speak out for the animals, and be their voice, I wonder if I can get peta and HSUS on board?
