He could have more resources and scholarships and with stand alone arena coming that could be a dangerous formula for the CCHA.

Could it be another coach at BG that goes on to be MORE successful AFTER his stay on the BG coaching staff....a la, York, Wilson, Patrick, Hills, Mason and I'm sure the list could go on.
If Willy would go down to Columbus it would be great to see him as a head coach somewhere.

That question right there explains the pain I go through everyday forcing myself to read the BG News. These types of mistakes are made in the paper on an almost daily basis, so apparently their editors have terrible grammar. I will hope that the answers to my questions are addressed by other media outlets and published there so that I need not struggle through another story in the BG News.

Yes, how long is his contract for?
Link
Bergeron, who will turn 40 on Nov. 28, received a six-year contract and a base salary of $125,000. The contract has guaranteed compensation of $150,000, that includes such compensation as for appearances on a radio show.
Additional bonuses for success on the ice and academically also are available.

Wow, six years guaranteed $150,000. That answers my question of how committed the University is to turning the hockey program around. Looks like they are very committed. If it was for 3 years or less I would have still been worried.

Ok I'm kidding... but I really will be at the conference. I don't plan on asking any questions though... just plan on being a quiet photog in the back shooting photos.

I know I will be corrected quickly if I am wrong here, but doesnt that compensation package make him the Highest paid Head Coach in our history? I think speaks volumes as to how serious the administration is about getting us back on top and in the mix for CCHA titles. I think it also says alot about how serious they took the search. I think it is just another section of pavement on the road to restoration.

What kind of style does he want to play here?

What are his success goals? 1st year, 2nd year....etc.

With the tone around here the last few months/year do you blame them? This is a about the new direction the hockey program is going in, not about past loyalties or playing the blame game. I would have done the same thing just to be sure the new coach wouldn't be bombarded with crap from the past.

Thank you coach Williams for guiding the ship through a very rough storm, the program is in your debt.

Welcome coach Bergeron! This is your ship now so lets get moving!

Reading his bio, there's one pro alum he should be able to get donations from:

Does knowing that they shared a hometown mean I need help?

As for the press conference deal, that's pretty much standard procedure. With the passion surrounding the program the past year or so, it was likely just a reminder. Or more likely, just a continuation on the thought that the presser will be streamed for fans to watch. And with the banquet coming up, fans of the program will have their chance to meet him and ask questions then, without a 6pm deadline.

I think the term "STUDENT NEWSPAPER" needs to be brought into the discussion here. This is not the New York Times, or Washington Post, or any other professional paper. These are STUDENTS who are LEARNING their craft. Mistakes are going to be made and corrected, made again and corrected again. That's the learning process. If that bothers you, then please stop "forcing" yourself to read the BG News and pick up a real paper like the Toledo Blade

I'll agree to a point. However, my student run high school newspaper was damn near perfect thanks to our editor in chief. Having a bad paper says nothing about the writers... their job is to get the story and communicate it. The details are left for the editors, of which I think the BG News could do a better job of training/selecting. Either way, its still not as bad as the Toledo Blade. That's some awful reading right there...

It seems like he was the recruiting coordinator for Miami so I would expect him to be able to bring in some good players. We just need to see that continued support from the administration that Miami has seen and if Bergeron is the right guy we'll start seeing that success 2-3 years from now.

Regarding Willy and the banquet I hope the Bergeron's time there is held to a minimum so the families, players, and coach can have a final night to put the right end to the season.

This announcement should have been held off until after the banquet.

BG Drew

Agree 100% on the timing of this annoucement. Could they have waited 48 hours and done this wednesday or even thursday after the banquet.

University basically said Williams coach this team because nobody else will, but when your done we won't even let you have the proper send off at your banquet because we are bring in your replacement to steal your thunder. They can't practice now, recruiting is done, nothing is pressing the time table now. Could have waited till after the banquet to name Bergeron. Classless move.
