I am going to have speak out for the animals, and be their voice, I wonder if I can get peta and HSUS on board?

And here's the problem with that...rally wrote:And that's the key. There's been a continual rub between the Standing Rock Sioux (opposed) and Spirit Lake Sioux (for) over the mascot ... even up to the ND Supreme Court. The NC$$ finally said enough. A few years ago they came down hard on Florida State, but back-pedaled like an all-pro linebacker when the Seminole tribe said "butt out." To quote the NC$$, "This decision applies to the unique relationship Florida State University has with the Seminole Tribe of Florida. Requests for reviews from other institutions will be handled on a case-by-case basis." I guess "offensive" isn't an absolute ... the offended must feel offended. That said, I wouldn't expect the Irish Consulate to file a grievance against Notre Dame any time soon.rood wrote: Actually CMU and the Saginaw Chippewa tribe have a very strong, mutually supportive relationship.
According to the NCAA, the tribe must be on board for a school to keep the name. But comparing the Seminole and the Sioux is NOT the same thing.
As I understand it (and I may be incorrect), the Seminole is one tribe. Sioux is NOT one tribe: the word can refer to one of numerous tribes that were/are in Minnesota, North Dakota, Iowa, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, etc. They have separate governments, separate cultures, etc.
So asking the Seminole, a singular tribe, and the Sioux, made up of numerous nations, for approval is not the same thing. It would be like getting the approval of the Japanese vs. getting the approval of Asians.
