New assistant coaches have been hired - Ty Eigner and Barry Schutte.

Eigner has been a successful high school coach in Minnesota for years. Should be interesting to see what he can do for our recruiting.

Schutte did some assistant coaching at Miami and in the USHL before being the arena manager at Miami for the last few years. I don't know what to make of that.
I love people who can laugh at themselves. It saves me the effort.

1. Ty Eigner... there's our BG connection (because I know that's important to some fans). Great coach with a lot of potential.

2. Barry Schutte... we got a steal here. His knowledge of the game and hockey/ice arena operations is outstanding. We definitely got a great asset in both of our new assistant coaches.

I see these two hires as being NOTHING but positive, and a tremendous step forward for the program.

I finally got a chance to stop and meeting the new coach. I was very impressed with him! He is very, VERY focused on getting us back on the winning track. He is very passionate about this job and knows that there is a lot of pressure to do well and can't wait until they start playing the games!! He says he wants to be here forever, that this is not a stepping stone to something else!! His family is very excited about moving here too. He's been impressed with the number of people who have reached out to him already (former players, community, etc...). He has the high expectations that we all want from our players: accountability in the classroom, community and on ice performance, all at HIGH standards!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

I posted nearly a word for word the same summation of my first meeting with Gene Cross over on our board. Hope this guy works out a lot better than he did.

h2Rock, I have no idea how many games Chris Bergeron will win. But believe me, he will absolutley represent BG hockey/BGSU in a first class manner, not make any excuses and connect quickly to BG hockey alums and supporters. He will demand full accountability from team and staff and he will place academics first.

He will do all those things. Guaranteed. Hopefully, as our players improve and new players are added, we will win.

Coach Cross (though I wish him well) did not do all of the above. Some I am sure, but not nearly all. Coach Bergeron will.

Go Falcons!

I'm looking forward to meeting Coach Bergeron and his family at the reception on Friday. I'll have to admit that I was a bit dubious at the announcement of his hiring (Miami bias I suppose), but everything I've heard or read is upbeat and positive. In fact, I'm more pumped about the future than I have been in years. Win or lose, I think there will be a lot of excitement in the Ice Arena this year. Can't wait to drop the puck!

They have been spending time the past few days CLEANING the outside walls of the arena and it looks MUCH better. No more black streaks....it's only taken how many years?

If I remember correctly, the gutter system that was originally installed on that building was woefully inadequate causing it to overflow during rain storms resulting in the black streaking. I believe that one of the improvements in this round of renovations is to replace that system so the roof drains properly. This will keep the black streaks from re-appearing as well as fix some of the leaking that has happened over the years.

"The white trim on the exterior of the roof also is being examined while the gutters are being replaced. The new gutter system and masonry cleaning will help improve the outside appearance of the building, Crawford said."

I sure hope they inspect the bolts holding those decorative panels up. Remember a couple years back over the summer when they started falling off the Football stadium...lucky, very lucky no one was killed by those.
