Jan. 4, 2005
Miami, Florida - The Football Writers Association of America and Scripps announced their fourth annual Freshman All-America team on Tuesday morning during the association's annual awards breakfast and recognized BGSU left guard Kory Lichtensteiger, the lone selection from the Mid American Conference.
He helped the squad set a MAC record by averaging 44.3 points and 506.3 yards per game of total offense. In addition, BGSU allowed the fewest sacks in the league with 13.
The team included three players from Michigan and two players each from Southern California, Arizona State and Auburn. There were six unanimous selections, including Heisman Trophy finalist, Oklahoma running back Adrian Peterson.
In addition, UTEP coach Mike Price was named the top first-year coach at his school.
The team and coach are selected by a group of writers led by FWAA second vice-president Mike Griffith of the Knoxville News-Sentinel , a member of the Scripps chain. Both true freshmen and redshirt freshmen were considered for the team and so noted.
CONGRATS TO KORY FOR YET ANOTHER HONOR! What a great freshman season for Kory and I look for him to move to Center and take over for Scott M in 2005. THREE more years for Kory.
GO FALCONS!!! 2005 MAC CHAMPS!!!
