Will Harris Keep #7? ? ?

I am thinking about getting a J7 Browns jersey and was wondering if he will indeed stay as #7 with the Browns?

What do you guys think on him staying with Cleveland and keeping #7 (will Garcia go?, if he does woudl Josh take #5??)

Really tough to say what's going on until they get a GM & Coach locked up for next season. Its looking right now like the GM will be Phil Savage from the Ravens (Oh please god, let it be!). The Browns brass flew to Baltimore Monday to meet with him, then they had him flown in to Cleveland for a second interview yesterday. It looks like he's their #1 candidate, and that's a very good thing.

From there whoever gets the GM job will pick a head coach.

Who gets those jobs will have a major impact on the future of Jeff Garcia. Jeff admitted, and even complained, all season long that he wasn't comfortable in that offense. It will be interesting to see what coaching staff comes in and what their philosophies are. If it is an offense that Jeff can fit into I would expect Garcia to stick around. If it is not, then he will likely be cut. Many Browns fans think its a foregone conclusion that Garcia is history, but I don't think so. They'd still take a pretty big cap hit by cutting him this year, and if they can make use of him, I don't see them cutting him.

I guess my advice is to just sit back and wait awhile, because it could take some time before we know what's going on in Cleveland. I would imagine if Garcia does leave that Harris will want his #5. If he sticks with #7 no matter what its all moot.

Play it safe and get a BG #4 jersey instead.

For Christmas I got an authentic Garcia alternative Browns Jersey (the Orange one). It was about $120 less than if I customized it with my own name and number. It normally runs about $250. I am hoping that Garcia leaves and Harris takes #5. Either way the Garcia name will be taken off the back. If you ever want an authentic jersey and don't want to pay the hefty $200 + dollars for one, wait until a player leaves. They jersey goes down to about $100 then just un-stitch the name on the back. I did that with the Spielman #54 jersey. Now it just looks like I have a Andre Davis jersey.

Dayons, I feel your pain. Currently, I have a white old school Ozzie jersey and a brown #92 Courtney Brown. I figure the Quiet Storm will be gone next year and am thinking about who to add (maybe in an "alternate" orange this time). I'm going to take hammb's advice and wait to see what happens with the QB situation. He's right, it will all hinge on the GM and the coach he brings in.

If I were a betting man, and I'm not, I'd put down good money on Savage being hired as GM and Savage, in turn, picking Fassel as the HC. I'd go out on a limb and say Fassel likes Josh, since he was close to the QB situation in B-more. So, in the end, I'd say Josh stays, Garcia goes and we see the return of J5.

I forgot about Fassel being one the Ravens coaching staff. So I would agree that is Savage and Fassel come to Cleveland, that would bode well for Harris. 8) Still undecided about Fassel though. But if it were me, it would probably come down to him and Crennell from NE.

Karl, don't toss that Quiet Storm Jersey just yet. I think Courtney's cap hit for next season is somewhere in the neighborhood of $950k. No way they'll cut him if it costs less than a million to keep him on the team. It is so upsetting to see a guy with so much talent sit on the bench with injury after injury

I want an Orange Kellen Jersey, personally.

Let's hope Winslow doesn't have the same injury problems Brown has.

On another Browns note, why the heck are we drafting after the Dolphins??? I know that we had the same records, they had an "easier" schedule so the NFL put them at #2 and the Browns #3. This makes no sense to me because THE DOLPHINS BEAT THE BROWNS! When determining playoff positions, head to head counts. But when determining draft position, head to head means nothing. Why the heck is that? :coo-coo: :rant:

I've been wondering the same thing Warthog. It makes no sense at all the way the NFL does that. For draft position its record, then strength of schedule, then a coin flip!? Nothing about head to head or any of the other various tie breakers that are used for determining playoff teams.

Its not the end of the world though, as we'll save some money in the #3 slot, and I'm not sure there are any players that we really want to take at either position. If one of the QBs drops to #3 that could be a good spot for a trade down. I really cannot even guess who we'll take if we stay at 3. I can't see us taking either of the QBs. Antrell Rolle is probably my favorite player of the bunch, but I see him as more of an outstanding safety than pure shutdown CB. I don't think he's quite worthy of the #3 either, because as a safety, I'd put him a step down from Taylor/Williams of years past.

This is just a very weak draft, and anything could happen. Right now I think Mike Williams would look pretty good in Orange & Brown, but my opinion could change if D'Brickashaw Ferguson declares

hammb, I will stick with my earlier declaration of desiring a "skill" player with the #3 pick and then going after an OL-man at the top of the second round.

I think head to head comes into play AFTER the "opponents record" is figured in. Dallas and the Giants have the same record, and their opponents finished with identical records, so they gave the higher pick to Dallas because they lost to the Giants. Furthermore, the last two spots are filled by the Super Bowl teams, with the result of *that* head-to-head meeting determining the last two spots.

I understand why they do it like this, it just seems pretty silly.

That's right TG. I remember reading the part about the G-men beating the pokes twice so the pokes got the higher pick. The Browns situation just makes no sense to me though. If a team beats you on the field, they are the better team. So when we have identical records, how can they be given the higher pick?

But as hammb said, maybe this is for the better. There is really no one that stands out as a top one or two pick. By sliding to three, you save some money but still will pick the guy you really want, more than likely.

Well guys,

Checking in on www.berniesinsiders.com it appears that Phil Savage is going to be named the new GM of the Browns either today or tomorrow. That is great news for all of us Browns fans, IMO.

As much as I hate the Ravens no organization has done as good of a job on draft day as Baltimore. Every defensive player they pick seems to become a probowler (Lewis, Suggs, Reed, McAlister, among others). They've had a poor track record with QBs, but they also have brought in a great OL & RB. I've also heard many say that the Boller pick was a Billick pet project against the suggestions of Savage/Ozzie as well. Either way one screwup in their draft record is pretty darn good if you ask me.

This is the best news the Browns could give today!

Also don't forget that this guy drafted J5

I gotta believe that will hold some water when it comes to deciding if Harris is going to stick around for another year or two.

It's a long Q&A, with him pointing the finger at times (some of it justified, IMO), and even mentioning some teams that he may fit in with better (ATL, DET).

So, start sewing Harris on your #5 jerseys!
