New 2010 Football Parking Arrangements - PLEASE READ
This affects where a lot of us have always parked and tailgated. Those lots will be out-of-commission this season. Here's the text of the info, please CLICK HERE to view the PDF.
Football Parking Modifications for 2010
As part of Bowling Green State University’s on-going campus beautification efforts, all gravel parking lots east of the Football Stadium will become grass parking by Spring of 2011. Construction has already begun and will impact football game day parking.
2010 home football parking will be adjusted to accommodate the construction zone. Fans will now utilize the newly paved lots along Alumni Drive, the grass areas southwest of Whittaker track, a portion of the Intramural Fields, areas to the north of Cochrane Soccer Field and Campus Parking Lots 10 (Ice Arena) and 18 (Perry Field House). The current grass area to the south of the golf course hill will also be under construction due to new irrigation being installed.
Season ticket holders with season ticket parking passes will continue to park in the area behind the scoreboard. Falcon Club members still have the opportunity, depending on giving level, to purchase parking passes for Lot L (Sebo Athletic Center Lot) and the grass area north of Cochrane Soccer Field.
BGSU Athletic Event Staff Parking Crews will be onsite to ensure proper traffic flow into the stadium. Parking remains $5 for cars, $10 for busses and $15 for motorhomes. Overnight parking of motorhomes will be in Lot 20 for $25 and will need to be arranged in advance by calling 419-372-7055.
Because parking will not take place in the current gravel lots, Falcon Tailgate Park will move to the southwest side of the stadium to provide fans with quick access to tent city from the new parking areas. The football team will also make its team walk along the southwest sidewalk, past the tailgate areas and into the stadium at Gate 2.
For questions related to parking, please contact: Ben Spence, Operations and Events Coordinator at 419-372-7055 or [email protected]

Well, that kind of sux...
Guess we'll have a little different set up this year, eh?
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Seems they could have started last year after football rather than waiting until last week and the grass would already be in if it was planted this spring. The department has NO fore sight wihen it comes to planning these types of projects.
Re: New 2010 Football Parking Arrangements - PLEASE READ
Ugh...that sucks.
I thought the whole grass parking lot thing sounded kinda dumb in the first place, but I can't believe they put this off so long that they have to shut these lots down for an entire football season. I'd be VERY curious to hear what the reasoning was for waiting so long. Maybe there was no feasible way to do this without missing one football season, but it certainly seems right now like they screwed up royally.
Looking at the map I'm thinking the Lots 6-1, 6-2, 6-3 are going to be the best places to be this season. Going from memory, but I think it should be paved parking and there is a good grassy area there to set up games and whatnot. I bet we're gonna have to be there early to secure those spots though.

This work is part of the University's master plan and the athletic dept does not control all those matters of start and finish of a project like that. I don't know all the details but with five brand new structures underway along with street and bldg renovation projects, there is quite a bit going on. To start the project after football final game would have meant starting Dec 1, 2009. Tough to do that in the winter; not a lot you could have done prior to April. So we started in early July. A little late, but...you have to get the grass growing.
Good news is that on about August 15, 2011, you are going to see Bowling Green in an incredible position overall. In my opinion. And in the opinion of the biggest applicant pool in school history and perhaps the second largest incoming class in school history. It ain't bad- it's good. Eventually.
Go Falcons!

Do you think Ohio State would have started this project in late July, messing up the parking for their football home games? I understand we are talking about different resources, but BGSU Athletics makes some decisions that are real headscratchers. I'm sure there is a valid reason for the delay, but common sense is not real strong around here at times.

Hmmm...interesting. Let's pick a new spot this year and go from there. I really don't care where as long as the grill is fired up and we're ready to rock.

The good thing about these lots is right across the street are gas stations if ya need ice, beer, dogs or whatever. And I plan on getting a motel room for some games (after last season's fiasco) and can walk across the street to a motel.hammb wrote: Looking at the map I'm thinking the Lots 6-1, 6-2, 6-3 are going to be the best places to be this season. Also, looks like the team walk is gonna be from Alumni Drive to the stadium.

Agree with Freak and TG. Just pick a spot and I'll sure the masses will find it.

If we want the camper there, we are limited to Lot 20, which would mean we won't be set up next to you guys if you are in the other lots.
We also are going to have to pay bigger bux to park there overnight. Can't get the dang thing in there if we wait until game day!!

That is absolutely ridiculous. Reading the pdf it looks as though you are right, but it really sucks. I can understand wanting to charge for overnight parking, I've always thought that the AD missed out on a lot of money by not having people out there to collect early. What I don't understand is why you should be limited to that ONE parking lot if you want to bring an RV overnight. It clearly says that RVs are allowed in the other lots on gameday.
That lot 20 is all pavement *blech* I'm going to have to go out there and do some scouting work to figure out where we should set up. I really like having the grassy area like we've had in the past, but I certainly don't want to break the group up either.
I would REALLY like to know what the hell the logic is behind allowing RVs in all the lots, but only lot 20 if they're staying overnight? Freaking stupid...

This does kind of suck, but once we get it all figured out it'll be the same old fun. Just might require a little recon and strategery. hammb- if you head out there let us know how 6-1, 6-2, and 6-3 look- paved, grass medians etc. (Might be too much to ask for pics, but...) I'm a big fan of the grass medians. . . .
With the condensing of all the parking, and people, I sure hope they re-think their port-o-let placement. Although, with the Visitor Booth thing the females have to like the opportunity of using a cleaner toilet!

Can't you just move the camper first thing in the morning to the space of your choice? Or are they prohibiting them in the other lots too?
Bottom line, it's a one year thing that effects 5 games. I think we can handle it.
