I've noticed more and more people saying and writing "Meantime" at the start of sentences.

Copacetic, as in "Is this work copacetic?".
Typically used by contractors trying to show they know words other than the seven words George Carlin discussed during his career.

How the heck do you START a sentence with "meantime?" Do they mean "meanwhile?"TG1996 wrote:I've noticed more and more people saying and writing "Meantime" at the start of sentences.
I love people who can laugh at themselves. It saves me the effort.

Hope I am not too far off topic, but the phrase "Cool Beans" makes me want to bang my head against a wall!

"haters", "it is what it is" and my current worst "baby daddy/mommy" whcih apparantly means daddy or mommy but there wren't enough letters there to please some people so they added the "baby" part.

The term "restraining order", as in "stay away from our windows or we'll get a restraining order" is waaay overused.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: Annoyingly Overused Words in Everyday Conversation
Actually, I think they really mean "Meantime", even though it should obviously be "meanwhile". I could go along with "In the meantime", which is correct, but it's always just "meantime" with some of these folks, written and spoken.rood wrote:How the heck do you START a sentence with "meantime?" Being in consulting, I have a lot of them:
Passionate "What are you passionate about"
Piggyback
Vis-a-vis
Radar Screen "Just wanted to make sure XYZ project was on your radar screen to get done"
Synergy
Good-to-know
Nice-to-have
Development opportunity
Elephant in the room
800 lbs gorrilla
30,000 feet
High-level
Bandwidth
Low-hanging fruit
Value add
Wordsmith
Believe me...I could go on...

And for the attorneys out there, I'm tired of hearing "appalled" and "Nazi thug". Next one to call me or one of my staff that might get a re-enactment of what Nazi thugs REALLY did.

"High Def" ...getting sick of seeing everything advertised as High Def!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."
