I know not too many people will care...

...but I yo-yo. I am not a competitive yo-yoer, but I like watching some of it.

This is the most incredible yo-yo performance I have ever seen.

Jensen Kimmet, 2010 world champion. if you don't want to watch the whole thing, watch until about 45 seconds in where he makes the yo-yo seem like it's in slow motion. sick.

By the way - modern yo-yos don't come up when you tug on them like old ones do. Every time he has the thing return to his hand, he has to create his own bind. At about 1:50, he bounces the string off his leg in a way that bounces it into the gap of the yo-yo and causes it to bind and return without getting a knot.

You can't begin to understand the control he has...staggering.

Why not? It seems pretty evident. In fact I'm guessing everybody who watches this understands the control. If you never SAW a yo-yo before you would STILL understand the control he has.

I think that a yo-yo-ologist sees it from a much different perspective than the rest of us commoners. :-D

It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

I'm not going to debate H2O on this one. He's a UT grad, he clearly knows all about yo-yos.

Nathan,

I didn't mean for it to seem like it wasn't obvious, just to point out that to be able to do that on a stage in a competition like he's just doing walk the dog is insanity.

If I practiced a few hours every day for a long time, I could possibly hit that bind 1 out of 10 times, and I don't suck terribly. For him to make that seem so easy...wow.

It's always neat to see the best in the world at a skill.

Falcon, I'm aware, I was tossing a off-handed joke at the token UT grad. I own a dozen Yo-Yos, bought my daughter her first last month. Of course, my own all date to the mid-80s, and were more effectively employed for the way they'd make our late family cats leap into the air trying to grab them. Tommy Smothers' Yo-Yo Man skits were my favorite part of the late revamp of the Smothers Brothers show.

The man's skills are un-natural. Were he to have lived 600 years ago, native tribes would have worshiped him as a god.

The key thing here though, is that he uses an orange Yo-Yo. We should have him do a show at the Stroh.

If I appeared harsh I apologize, it wasn't my intent- it's such a stunning display that I really felt it didn't take a yo-yo afficianado to get that- and the guy is quite a showman.

And Drew- that post took me about twenty minutes to compose because I kept working in BG yo-yo references and then chastising myself misbehaving. Glad you didn't waste the opportunity. ;-)
