Swimming Coach resigns

Post by Drago »

Keri Buff resigned yesterday to take a job with a swim wear manufacturer.

We sure do lose/fire a lot of coaches around here. I don't follow swimming, but I know we weren't really good. Still, it seems like we lose two or three coaches a year.

Without knowing for sure, I would guess that this is pretty typical -- that most schools have 2-3 coaching changes each year. Again, I am totally guessing and have no empirical data whatsoever.

I guess you're right, it just seems like we dismiss a lot of coaches. This is different, I guess, but I wish we had some more success throughout our programs. I for one am done drinking the kool aid from this athletics regime.

My sister is a Head Swim Coach and has been for years...with much success. Wonder if she'd be interested? She's BGSU Class of '87.

Buff was the coach for 8 years...a pretty long term in today's college athletics. She did a pretty good job winning MAC COTY in 2002-3 and her teams placed higher at the MAC Championships than the program had in a decade.

Best wishes, good fortune and thanks for coaching the Falcons, Coach Buff!

We just lost our swim coach, too, Freak. Have your sister apply-there'd be two chances to score a job in the same geo area.

I am sure that there are different reasons here. I'd surmise (and it is only that, no insider knowledge here) that with swimming which typically begins at O'dark thirty 3-4 days a week and then afternoon practices to boot and multiple days on the road during the schedule...and raising a few small kids thats one thing. On the other hand Lars, after just completing a MACC with the Rockets is basically returning home to help the Vols since their asst was just diagnosed with cancer.

Finally, after 5 years of membership we finally can talk some swimming!
There is no other way to finish a season other than yelling at the top of your lungs among BG's players holding the Peace Pipe aloft!

Hey, Johnnie- I love to talk swimming. Especially UT-BG swimming. ;-) My wife was a UT swimmer back before they were very good-It's been fun to watch UT's rise in the MAC-fifth to fourth to Third to second to first in the last five years I beleive. Nice steady progression under Lars. And I think we have a twenty-one year win streak against the Falcons. Our top swimmer is back (Jacy Dyer co-MAC Swimmer of the Year) is back along with sefveral other all MAC types. Dyer just took 11th in the Nationals in the 800 free.

Whether its Freak's sister or another coach, whoever takes over UT will get a team that's loaded. Then its just a matter of keeping up the recruiting.

I think she's totally content to be the HS coach at Dover for the next 30 years. Oh well...
