#29 in use this year??

Post by Falconfreak90 »

I thought #29 was retired (Paul Miles) but the media guide lists Cameron Truss as #29? Something isn't right somewhere.

Interesting, the roster for 2009 has him with a #28 along with another player also using #28.

GO BG! BEAT TROY!
Did we retire Miles' jersey or his number? I don't know the answer to this for him at BG, but when a jersey is retired it allows players to continue to wear the number, compared to when a number is retired and you don't.

It's always been my inpression that #29 is the ONLY BG number to ever be retired....so the "jersey" thing doesn't hold IMO.

Hall of Fame
Paul Miles Class of 1974

Induction Class of 1990
Baseball
Football

Was possibly the best running back to play in the Mid-American Conference up to the time of his graduation in 1974. Miles was the career rushing leader in the MAC following his senior year and his total of 3,239 yards is still ninth on the MAC list second on the BGSU ladder.

The Paulding, Ohio native was 10th in the nation as a sophomore with 1,185 yards rushing. He had 1,024 yards as a junior and 1,031 as a senior to close out a brilliant career that also included 25 touchdowns. Miles, who had a career average of 108 yards rushing per game, was just the third running back in NCAA history to record three seasons of better than 1,000 yards while he finished his career ninth on the NCAA's yardage list.

Miles' jersey, #29, is the only football jersey ever retired at BGSU. Miles also earned two letters as a member of the BGSU baseball team.

Worked as the Intake Coordinator in the Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Center of Villa Vien Community Hospital in San Diego. Miles and his wife, Dene, have two children, Sean, and Travis.

I guess they retired the jersey. How exactly do you retire a jersey?

Nobody ever wears that # again...that's what retire means to me. Probably just a typo on the page.

Wish I would have been able to see Miles play. His numbers are amazing.

Page 74 of the media guide lists Truss with #29, yet on Page 118 of the same publication, under a picture of Miles, it states "Paul Miles is second on the BG career rushing list with 3,238 yards while he is also the only football player to have his
number retired
."

I know the Athletic Department is looking at retooling how numbers/jerseys are retired and honored but I think it is pretty clear cut that #29 is out of circulation and would be disappointing to see it issued this season.

Someone needs to bring this to the attention of the coaches/athletic department. When a number is retired...IT'S RETIRED. PEROID.

It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

I totally agree...if a number is retired, then it should be retired. You would think that they would be on top of this. The hockey team doesn't use 19, it is just common sense.

And our Falcon hockey fans would absolutely go ape-sh!t if that happened!! That is exactly what I was thinking about when I posted.

Truss was wearing No. 49 in the team photo on Wednesday and there wasn't anyone else wearing 29 either, I think it's just a typo on the roster page.

As far as I can tell, 29 has not been issued.
