Seems Nevada and Fresno State left the WAC today and Joined the MTN west
BYU is speaking of going independent, before Joining the big 12 or pact10
Lots of moves in College football this off season. I am looking forward to seeing exactly what the BCS does as far as a play off, and what the rest of D1 does to find an identity.

Re: WAC - SMACK
Where did you hear they wanted to join the Big 12 or Pac 10, haven't heard either of those conferences mentioned in this BYU thing. BYU wants to be the Notre Dame of the West, with a national TV contract while not having to share any TV or bowl money with everyone else. If they go independent for football they want all their other sports in the WAC, which may be up in the air now after the loss of Fresno and Nevada. The West Coast Conference also has interest in gaining BYU in all other sports, though it doesn't seem like BYU is interested. BYU won't be joining the Big 12 or Pac 10 is they want to stay a football independent because those two conferences probably won't let them join for everything but football, and unless BYU gets some offer like the Big 12 gave Texas when it comes to TV contracts I doubt BYU wants to join either.MACMAN wrote:BYU is speaking of going independent, before Joining the big 12 or pact10

Re: WAC - SMACK
The talking heads on the U brought it up tonight that BYU has had contact with both conferences, and that it was their assumption that a move to an independent status could make that or something larger materialize. What I found interesting was the coaches quote where he said he could not imagine not playing as a part of conference, but that, that was not his decision.
Seems that there is quite a bit going with this, I would wager that many teams are shuffling in an attempt to part of where ever the BCS decides to land in the next couple years with their new division. As much as they say and try to position the mt west as being a new BCS conference, I look at those teams and honestly saw...WTF would a BCS conference want with 2/3 of them. I would wager a bet that instead of the conference getting an auto BCS bid, the BCS pulls out the schools they want and leaves the rest behind as it should be.

I assumed they were looking for affiliation with a larger conference when they split. Independent makes no sense-who do they play- teams from the same leagues mentioned here and the militaries or teams from their former conference. They won't get home games with SEC or Big Ten type teams much. Staying independent doesn't make much sense, IMO. And this is my first and last serious post about conference shifts= too much AirportKC over on the MACBBs/

well if the MAC keeps adding teams one thing will be for sure, it will no longer be a conference, but a division.

There is no way in hell that the Pac 10 would ever add BYU....they don't fit academically or culturally.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
