Diyral Briggs is a beast!

Post by MarkL »

Did anybody else watch the 49ers-Colts preseason game? Briggs kicked some serious AZZ! He picked off Painter at one point, and it seemed like all throughout the second and third quarter he was camping out in the backfield, getting a couple of hits on the QB and was part of several hurries. And it seemed like he attracted some great attention from the announcers too!

I didn't see the game, but my appreciation for Diryall Briggs has only grown as I've watched Joe Thomas play. Briggs absolutely owned and abused Thomas when we played UW at CBS. I think he had a few sacks and multiple pressures on the Badger QB.

Since that season Thomas has only gone on to be a top 5 pick, and make 3 consecutive pro bowls. He's hand's down the best LT on the planet right now, and it still blows my mind how Briggs ate him up.

I don't know if he'll ever make it at the NFL, but it wouldn't surprise me if he does.

Crap. I KNEW there was a BG connection in SF when I turned that game on for 2 seconds today. Looks like he fumbled on the INT return, but good to get a pick, even if it was off Painter.

Looked back at some highlights, his pick looked pretty athletic, reaching back behind to make the grab. (Then carry the ball like a loaf of bread...) Had 3 tackles and apparently played most of three quarters, as he was in for the Colts 1st qtr. TD.

Keep it up Diyral!

I talked to a guy who was at the niner's camp this summer, who basically was trying to earn a spot at the same position. Unfortunately things didn't go his way, but anyhow he had loads of good things to say about Briggs.

Basically he said that Briggs is a freak, and just has a knack for getting to the QB and a heck of a nose for the ball. He has the intangebles despite not being the most physically imposing player at the position.

I was downtown Sunday for the baseball game and saw a guy wearing a Briggs SF jersey. I was going to go over to him but that would have meant effort and it was hot as hell Sunday.

side note, too lazy to post in other sports. was at the Indians game on 8/11. Saw Nolan Reimold play, he went 2for 3 with 3 RBIs and a stolen base.

I got Calabro to mention BG during the Colts highlights Sunday night. :-D

Good for Reimold, it looked like he was having a tough year in AAA.

Missed the newscast. Reimold is starting to come around. He had an awfully short leash this year in Bmore. I am sure Briggs had some family make the short drive over from Cinci for the game.

Count me in as a San Fran supporter! I love what Singletary expects from his players and I hope he's been sticking it to Crabtree in his first year of camp!

Wasn't aware that Nolan was back with the O's... I usually watch the tribe games (I know, glutton for punishment), but a family matter kept me away from watching that game. Hard to believe he can't make the O's with their pathetic record, but then again, my friend who has partical ticket package noted that most of the O's stats were better man for man than those of the Indians... considering having to face, NY,Bost, and TB 19 times each, that's not too shabby.

Sorry I was not clear. I was at the Indianapolis Indians game. They are the AAA team for the Pirates. Nolan is playing for Norfolk.

The 49ers are on NBC Sunday night vs. Minnesota. Here's to Diyral knocking Favre back into retirement. :finga:

Carrying on a long time-honored tradition of the BG connection with the San Fran 49ers, dating back to Bernie Casey and Don Lisbon in the early '60's. And, of course, basketball-wise Nate Thurmond with the San Francisco Warriors in roughly the same era! ROLL ALONG!!!!!!!

How did Briggs do? I haven't had a chance to check out the box score from last night.
