Where the roster is today?
Re: Where the roster is today?
Just based on conversations I've had with the father of a combo kicker who's got BG on his short list when he graduates after this year, I would be a little surprised if Phillips isn't place kicking and Wright isn't our starting punter. They were told Phillips basically has this year to get more consistent or they will be looking for a kicker next year. While he was perfect on xp's, he was 8/13 on fg's. With Wright coming in for one season, they'll almost definitely be looking for a punter unless Phillips does end up working out there. Last impression I got was that they decided not to have him pull double duty so he can focus on his place kicking. The addition of Wright seems to help support that, but most of my information was from pre camp, so who knows. Things can change daily.
Re: Where the roster is today?
I would think the kid from Toledo Central Catholic will be more than capable for XP and FG in another year.
Re: Where the roster is today?
Wow
Once again we have linebacker size kids at end and safety/cornerbacks at linebacker. It is going to be a long year. We just do not have the size to compete at this time. I would rather have a kid like Briggs at LB rather then DE. Throw a kid at 250 ponds at end and let the larger linebackers move around them.
A kid at 220 or 230 has no business at end at this level. I really hope we focus on LB in the next recruiting class.

Re: Where the roster is today?
I wasn't at any of the scrimmages, but some people I've talked to who were at some of them mentioned the same thing. They were really suprised by our lack of size. Another thing brought up was poor offensive line play. Young QB and poor O-Line play would be a really bad combo. Hopefully it was just a bad day.
Re: Where the roster is today?
As far as I can tell, we've got great size at DT. Roussos is 294 and Chris Jones is 290. That's great size for MAC DTs.

Where is our terrible size? 6-3 230 is fine for a defensive end in the MAC. Look at the size for the freshman. Ouellet is 6-3 240 (Freshman), Gilbert 6-3 250 (Freshman), Farrington, Gobble, and Thomas all have the frames to add weight and be good players. At tackle, Campbell Wagner, Roussos, and Delany all have good size.
These are 18/19 year old kids, they will add 20-40 pounds over the course of their career. I haven't seen this much size on defense at BG in a while.
