Matt Schilz

Post by BGSU33 »

I haven't had a chance to meet him yet, but I have to say in just watching the videos the BG staff has provided for us to view and reading articles about him, he seems pretty poised and confident for a young player. I feel like I could be watching and listening to a junior with two years of playing experience under his belt and not a red-shirt freshman who has yet to take a collegiate snap. That said, I hope he has a great outing on Saturday and that we obviously get the win, and I hope he has a very successful career for us here at BG.

Let's not forget Matt was recruited and going to Kansas State before they changed their coach and offensive philosophy. This kid certainly had the pedigree to be a stud.

Didn't the same thing happen with Omar?

Yes.....and we had a schollie available for Omar because a *** QB from PA dumped us for Boston College. That kid did nothing at BC IIRC...

Schilz was around 6-1 and 185lbs coming out of HS. Now he's 6-2 and 215lbs (according to the Blade). I'm thinking if he was that size as a HS senior, a lot more schools than us and Kansas State would have been on him.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Rollo83,

You are more than dead on... Omar was offered from Kansas State and the offer was pulled after he got hurt in high school. Urban Meyer and Gregg Brandon had him travel with the team although red-shirting him, which took away a player during each trip since only 60 (I believe) were allowed to travel at the time to road games. I'm not sure what the current rule is for travel squad. That is similar enough to not having him play scout team as a freshman and taking reps as second or third team, which they did with Schilz.

Let's hope he ends up as talented.
