Well, things kicked off last night with New Orleans, once again, beating Minnesota. I was absolutely shocked by the final score. Both these defenses are for real! I love seeing Favre lose now that he's wearing that awful purple.

Receiver didn't control the ball after the ball in his hand hit the ground. He'd have to have stood up still holding and controlling the ball. Yeah, I don't like it either.

That was a great catch and a terrible call.

Oh and the Browns are who I thought they were...fu**ing terrible. Even I thought they'd beat Tampa, though...ugh...

That may have been the best call in the history of the NFL. I'm serious- I don't know the rule and it was awfully tough to follow the "process" (if they said that one more time I was going to brick my TV screen). If it WAS a great call then that's the worst rule in the history of the NFL.

I'll only go so far as to say Delhomme is fu**ing terrible. Defense wasn't too bad, Harrison and Hillis running the ball weren't too bad. Delhomme just killed them though. Every throw he made seemed to be going to a guy that was double or triple teamed. And his throws had nothing on them. They seemed to just float down field and I was praying every time it wouldn't be an INT. I'm ready for some Seneca Wallace.

Every throw he made seemed to be going to a guy that was double or triple teamed. And his throws had nothing on them. Well in the NFL if your QB is terrible your team is terrible. It's really the only position that matters nowadays. Teams live and die through the QB position.

I still think the team is terrible. If you devise a gameplan where Peyton freaking Hillis is the focal point on offense your coaching staff is retarded. It's more of the same from Mangini & Company. They are enamored with the tough unathletic players and try to build around them. You can see that in the complete lack of athleticism in the front 7 as well.

Even worse, as is his MO, Mangini plays scared. As soon as Hillis fumbled, the game plan went even more into a shell. The man is scared. He's afraid of players that may not be the perfect citizen. He's afraid of his offense making a mistake. He's afraid to take a chance on defense. Following that his players all play scared as well. They're afraid if they do make a mistake they'll face his wrath. As long as Mangini is in charge that team will NOT win football games.

Personally, I wasn't that thrilled with the defense either. They didn't seem to get any pressure unless they brought the house. Although Benard does look promising as a pass rusher...he's the only LB on the team with any athleticism. Our first round pick got torched deep, and that was after he cheated and got called for a penalty on the play too. Ward looks like he may be a player, but there were a couple plays where he got lost in coverage as well. Overall the defense didn't give up too many points, but I can't help but think that was largely due to the fact that Tampa is also AWFUL offensively.

That call in the Lion's game was absurd...the rule regarding possession and "completing the act" of catching the ball was clearly drafted to cover those situations where a player has control in the air and loses it as he lands or immediately thereafter. In this case Johnson caught the ball and landed, then rolled over to start getting up...he controlled the ball until he literally placed it on the ground. To apply that rule to that circumstance is beyond asinine...it's criminal.

If I had tried to call that an incomplete pass on the sandlots I grew up playing on...I'd surely have gotten my ass kicked

Kansas City gets out-gained by almost 200 yards and still finds a way to take down the Chargers.

That was the exact same call that almost screwed the Steelers in the 2005 "tackle" game against Indy. Troy had a clear interception, possessed the ball all the way through rolling over, and in the process of getting up to run, knocked the ball out of his hands with his knee. It's the correct call, and a really horrible rule.

Steelers got a huge win without Ben. That was the swing game that should allow them a 2-2 start, which is necessary in that division.

Dennis Dixon is pretty bad, but I wouldn't take Delhomme over him. Come to think of it, I'm not sure I take any of the QBs the Browns have thrown out there in recent memory over Dennis Dixon throwing at guys' feet. They really need to fix that position. It's criminal that they haven't tried harder to do so.

Yeah, they really need to get some of the rules back to the basics of actual football. None of this ground can't cause fumble and you can't touch the QB's helmet nonsense!

I agree, but unfortunately most of the fanbase (and seemingly every regime) seems to feel that you can win without a QB in the NFL. If you just build a dominant defense and running game you can win with Trent Dilfer!

Ugh...that attitude seriously pisses me off.

Until they find the right guy at QB they're going to continue to flounder as a franchise. I'm still pissed off about those 4 games at the end of the year. They would have gotten rid of Mangini and added Bradford, who I'm still in love with. He'll be in the probowl before 2013.

Another year and already looking forward to the draft after week 1...LOL

In a perfect world the following would occur:

1) NFL Reaches a labor agreement soon enough that the usual underclassmen declare for the draft.
2) Browns finish with worst record in the NFL
3) Mangini is fired because he sucks balls
4) Andrew Luck or Jake Locker gets picked by the Browns

I would assume Gruden would be a legit HC candidate in this scenario. The thing that really sucks is if they don't reach a labor agreement in time there won't be many underclassmen to think about. The only legit senior QB prospect is going to be Locker, so that will pretty severely limit your options

I thought the same thing. If Troy was touched down before he got up, it would have been an interception. The NFL admitted the ref blew the call against Indy. This caused the officials house to be vandalized.

I think Dixon has upside. It was his second career start. He looked better than Sanchez. I still think the Steelers need to use Dixon in a "slash" type role once Ben comes back.
