Matt Schilz injury

Post by BGSU33 »

I wasn't able to catch the postgame with DC, did he say anything about Schilz's injury? I sure hope he's okay, he was looking very good out there before it happened.

John Wagner from The Blade tweeted it was an "AC shoulder injury" and his status is uncertain.

There is an interview with Clawson on bgsufalcons.com where coach says they think it might be an AC shoulder sprain. However, he said they aren't certain, and will find out within the next few days.

If he isn't ready for Michigan, I say two things: the Michigan game doesn't count in the MAC standings, and Pankratz played pretty well tonight. I don't think the injury could have been too serious, or he most likely would not have been out and about on the sidelines so quickly. So, there is no reason to lose sleep over it right now.

Even if Pankratz plays a game or two more, I think he is a viable option for us at quarterback. We should be fine.

100 bucks Schilz is out against Michigan. Nothing to gain playing him coming off an injury. Take the week to heal and hopefully get ready for Buffalo.

I really liked how he looked and was playing before he got hurt. I thought he looked much more comfortable in there over AP. And that's not a knock on AP, but there's a reason Schilz was our clear #1 coming out of camp. Just guessing, but the best case we could probably hope for is for him to be back for Buffalo. I believe they said it was his throwing shoulder too. I know every case is different, but I believe when we lost Omar Jacobs to one, he missed the next two games. Guess we'll have to now wait and see how bad it actually is.

Pankratz has the size so that can be an advantage, he has an arm but lacks the accuracy of schilz...pagel is apparently very mobile and athletic. I think if we worked a two quarterback system against Mich. that we could have a slight advantage for lack of tape for them to study.

It looked like Schilz' arm was kind of dangling there after he got hurt...I thought he separated it. Pankratz did play pretty well and there ain't a thing wrong with him getting some work. The UM game is meaningless for the MAC so I wouldn't mind seeing a few guys get some reps. Schilz does look very good so far...I am impressed with him.

I am as well. He does not look the like QB playing in his third game to me. I think we could have a very good one for years to come in him. Here's hoping to him bouncing back soon....

So basically it sounds to me like they feel Hurley is the 2nd best QB on the team. I can't say this comes as a real great surprise.

Let's hope that Schilz is not going to be out too long and we can keep that redshirt on him this season. If it's going to be more than a couple weeks though, I'd like to see us throw the redshirt away and play the best player now. The MAC is bad and this team has a chance to win the conference even if they are super young.

Yes...heck, on signing day there were people saying Hurley might come in and win the job outright this fall. If Schilz is going to be out for any length of time, give the team the best chance to win.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

I certainly expected him to compete for the job. If he's your #2, and your #1 is down for any length of time, go to him.

Unfortunately if this kid is any good I don't think you can keep he & Schilz both on the roster for their entire tenure anyhow. Whichever one doesn't become your long term starter is likely to transfer for playing time. It's pretty rare (especially at the MAC level) that you'd see a talented QB be willing to sit for 4 years so he could play one season as a starter.

Also, there is no rule stating you couldn't redshirt him NEXT year, if Schilz is again the best option and were to stay healthy.

Either way, it's very nice to have young, talented QBs to choose from. Nice change of pace :)

The game notes say that Schilz is out this weekend. Pankratz or Pagel listed at QB on the depth chart. No sign of Bojicic on the depth chart either.
