I was wondering if the team made the Miley Cyrus request. They all started dancing when the song came on the first time. I thought it was a joke. If it keeps them fired up, I can live with it.
My experience from yesterday:
Got there at 3:00, so traffic in was not bad, but the main entrance off Wooster was a little slow with one lane going both ways (towards the season tickets area and to the intramural fields). I had no trouble with the parking people, but 1 person that had a problem with it is one too many.
I had tickets on will call, which was on the east side of the stadium. Walking over there was out of the way, so I hope they can get that moved to the west side for the balance of the year. I got right through the gates and into the FC tent in 2 minutes. So I didn't experience any of the things mentioned previously.
I had a beer inside the stadium. I enjoy sitting in the stands and being able to have a beer and I didn't see anybody that was out of control. I think they hit a home run here.
I also bought enough from the bookstore to draw the ire of my wife. I liked the selection of Adidas gear and they had plenty of cheap t-shirts.
My biggest complaint about the gameday experience are the copy-cat attempts to create a 3rd quarter intermission "tradition". First it was "Sweet Caroline" and now trying to rip off Wisconsin's "Jump Around". Can't we just have the band play AZZ for 3-5 minutes? I guarantee that gets the crowd into it alot more than any of the other attempts.
Worst game day experience ever.
Re: Worst game day experience ever.
Yesterday was my first game as a spectator in 5 years, and I had a blast! Beer in the stadium is a no-brainer, it was well-managed and didn't seem to cause any fan issues that I saw. I was in the stadium about an hour before kickoff, so I didn't have any trouble with lines. As for paring, I walked from my apartment about a block off of campus. Took 10 minutes, saved myself all the parking headaches. I do have to say, though, that the parking staff was ill-prepared to deal with the limited space and the high school band day. Four hours before kickoff, I was told I could not park any closer than the Ice Arena (and pay $5) to go watch the high school band performances. I was told to do so by a not-very-polite Athletics employee stationed directly north of the Sebo.
Other than the bone-headed timing on the parking lot renovations, I had a fun experience, and plan on attending the rest of the home games this season. Oh, as for Sweet Caroline: I'm glad it's gone. The only place it caught on was at hockey games. I hope they keep it there, and dump it from the other sports. As to copycatting other schools "traditions", maybe we should be trying to come up with something original and fun for the crowd. Ideas?

Re: Worst game day experience ever.
Had a couple students sit in seats in my section, best experience I have ever had. They had a great time doing the 'jump around" (is that the song from the Bridgestone commercial guys driving around in a moon rover) I finally had somebody to yell BG SU with and these guys were able to be polite around my kids, I was laughing my azzzzz off. Of course my wife just about put an elbow through my ribs when I yelled to the team to "kick Marshall in the tooth" starting the fourth quarter.BGGrad01 wrote:First it was "Sweet Caroline" and now trying to rip off Wisconsin's "Jump Around". Re: Worst game day experience ever.
My little son had the time of his life. We parked at my great aunt's at Stadium View Apartments, walked to BK for dinner, skipped the freebie ribs, parking, and basically walked right into the stadium 45 minutes prior to the kickoff. We sat under the press box, as always, and I have no idea where my ticket was actually supposed to be.
The audio work did suck that night. However that was about the worst of anything I experienced.
I think the game was the bottom line, and it was a smash hit. Any other issues aside, it was a great contest, BG won, and that is what will bring folks back.

Re: Worst game day experience ever.
I believe sometime in the past couple seasons, the ticket takers were sending students home at the home-opener due to lack of seating. MANY students were angry, and student attendance suffered the rest of the season. This situation was miles better than that debacle, so I only hope we don't have too many discouraged students for the Buffalo game.TG1996 wrote:If it became a trend that the student section was that packed every week, every year, it would be a great idea and I'd love to have that problem.footballguy51 wrote:Does anybody else agree the student section needs to be bigger? That way there is a larger designated space for students, which would avoid the problem of random students throughout the stadium? It doesn't have to be connected, either. Put students in the northwest and northeast corners.
ROLL ALONG!!!
Re: Worst game day experience ever.
Just a thought on the student section idea. If we eventually have the student support to do this, how cool would it be to have students on both the east and west side of the stadium with the band in between and the Sebo Center wall there to bounce sound right back to the field? That would be really loud and would be tough on opposing offenses in the red zone at the north end zone. And how about 'BG' from the east student section, then 'SU' from the west stands. Food for thought.

Re: Worst game day experience ever.
I don't know if that would work...there's kind of an agreement in the MAC that students not be seated behind the opponents bench, so you'd have to seat them at the far end of the East side...and one of those ends is set aside at "visitor" seating
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: Worst game day experience ever.
I like it, Mark! I think we could easily use the last couple of sections and still not be *behind* the opposing bench... besides, Urban used to have a student section put directly on the 50 behind the opposing bench... might be fun, like hockey
