Week 4 MAC predictions

Last weekend was a better outing for the conference. MAC had three wins over non-conf FBS teams, including a beating of a BCS opponent.

Week 4 has no conference matchups and a ton of Big Ten vs MAC matchups, including an anticipated meeting of undefeated Temple and Penn State and a slaughter of EMU at Ohio State.

Buffalo at Connecticut
Winner: Connecticut. UB can make it close, but UConn wins.

Toledo at Purdue
Winner: Purdue. Toledo's offense has been miserable. Their defense has been pretty good against a couple of disappointing MAC offenses.

Cent. Michigan at Northwestern
Winner: Northwestern. CMU is talented but they're not going to win this one.

Bowling Green at (21) Michigan
Winner: BG. Can't pick against the Falcons. Defenses will eventually figure out Denard Robinson. Michigan's defense is bad.

Ball St. at (18) Iowa
Winner: Iowa. No real contest here.

Miami at Missouri
Winner: Missouri. Miami's been far better than I expected. Still, no real contest here.

Temple at (23) Penn St.
Winner: Penn State. It could be close. Temple is starting to get pretty good.

East. Michigan at (2) Ohio St.
Winner: Eastern Mich ... just kidding! Ohio State in a murder.

Ohio at Marshall
Winner: Marshall. Ohio's been bad. I think they'll get better this season, but right now, they're still learning. Marshall's better than 0-3.

Akron at Indiana
Winner: Indiana. I don't think Akron will go 0-12, but they sure won't beat IU.

Northern Illinois at Minnesota
Winner: NIU. MAC gets a win over the worst Big Ten team.

And remember, I plan to give a couple prizes to winner of most wins and best winning percentage. Play on!

I find it strangely interesting that every MAC team is on the road this weekend. Not a single home game for the MAC.

Let me preface my picks this week by saying that this could end up being a B!G week for the MAC if the teams play well. There are a lot of winnable games on this board, if somehow the conference goes 0-fer, it'll confirm the MAC's status as the dregs of college football.

Buffalo at Connecticut - Connecticut - I'm not high on Buffalo this year. If they couldn't beat UCF, they probably won't beat Uconn
Toledo at Purdue - Purdue - I had to think about this one a bit, since Purdue is bad this year, but I'm not confident enough in the Rockets
Cent. Michigan at Northwestern - Central Michigan - Here's where I might get into trouble, 1st upset pick, the Chips leave Evanston with a W
Bowling Green at (21) Michigan - Michigan - Maybe with a healthy Schilz, but you know our defense is going to get ripped anyway
Ball St. at (18) Iowa - Iowa - Ball State played surprisingly well last week, but they aren't good enough to beat Iowa
Miami at Missouri - Missouri - I was very, very close to picking the Redhawks here as their defense isn't a joke. Tigers barely
Temple at (23) Penn St. - Temple - If there was ever a chance for Temple to do something big, this is it. PSU hasn't looked great. Owls win and the talk of an unbeaten season begins
East. Michigan at (2) Ohio St. - Ohio State - Can we please kick EMU out of the MAC? They are a complete embarrassment
Ohio at Marshall - Marshall - This is perhaps the swing game of the week, but I'm not impressed with the bobcats. Marshall plays well at home
Akron at Indiana - Indiana - Akron is horrible, and it pisses me off that we don't face them, it'd be a guaranteed W
Northern Illinois at Minnesota - Northern Illinois - 3rd time the charm for the huskies? They were oh-so-close against Illinois last week

I doubt I would pick Toledo over EMU. Definitely not over Purdooky. Purdue wins.

I am going out on a limb and picking Miami.

Temple. Not sure why. I just want the white out to have tear stains.

East. Michigan at (2) Ohio St. 3:30 pm
OSU. The back-ups will be in by the 2nd half.

Ohio at Marshall 7:00 pm
Ohio. What is better than having BG beat Marshall? Having Marshall lose to 2 MAC schools this year.

Akron at Indiana 7:00 pm
Indiana in a blowout.

Northern Illinois at Minnesota 8:30 pm
NIU. Go Huskies!

My Week 4 Predictions:

UConn: Just the better team on paper, could go either way.

Purdue: Toledo has won with out playing great. Now that they must play a flawless game, this could get ugly.

CMU: Just call it a gut feeling.

UM: If we weren't keeping records I would be all BG. I will drink a case of beer if I am wrong on this one.

Iowa: They're much better than a Pop Warner team, and Ball St. has no chance.

Missouri: Better team at home.

Penn St.: Close, but Temple will struggle to put up points.

OSU: OSU's recruits for 2012 could probably beat EMU.

Marshall: OU is overrated, and Marshall plays better at home.

Indiana: Akron is the worst team in the MAC.

NIU: NIU is the more talented team, and that sad since Minny is a Big10 team.

Buffalo @ UConn - UConn is too good to lose to Buffalo. UConn Wins.

Toledo @ Purdue - Purdue will enjoy feasting on the Swiss style defense of Toledo. Purdue Wins.

CMU @ Northwestern - Last year, I would have picked CMU. With Dan the Man gone, however, the Chips don't stand a chance. Northwestern Wins.

BGSU @ UofM - I dreamt it, and so it shall be. BGSU Wins.

Ball State @ Iowa - The Cards are not good. Iowa Wins.

Miami @ Missouri - As much as Missouri loves losing to the MAC (or coming close to it), they will handle MiAudi. Mizzou Wins.

Temple @ Penn State - This could actually turn out to be a decent game and will tell us where Temple really is right now. I don't like their chances in Happy Valley though. Penn State Wins.

EMU @ Ohio State - This is going to get ugly...early and often. Ohio State Wins.

Ohio @ Marshall - Marshall is better than what they showed us last week, as much as that pains me to say. Terds Win.

Akron @ Indiana - Usually, a game like this would be a coin-flip but Akron is historically bad this year. Indiana Wins.

NIU @ Minnesota - The only time a Gopher can beat a Husky is in football. Minnesota Wins.

Cent. Michigan at Northwestern 12:00 pm- Central hangs tough, but loses to the kitties.
Bowling Green at (21) Michigan 12:00 pm- really want to pick BG here, but our defense sometimes looks clueless, while other times looks solid. I think Michigan wins, but it won't be a blowout.
Ball St. at (18) Iowa 12:00 pm- Iowa wins and won't play a first team player in most of the 2nd half.
Miami at Missouri 2:00 pm- Missouri wins
Temple at (23) Penn St. 3:30 pm- Temple turns the ball over too much, but hangs tough. Temple has a strong chance in this one. However, Penn State wins by 6.
East. Michigan at (2) Ohio St. 3:30 pm- Eastern Michigan has a chance...... to take home $850,000 once they are slaughtered by THE Ohio State University.
Ohio at Marshall 7:00 pm- Marshall has some nice weapons, but are not disciplined. Ohio is below average. Marshall wins.
Akron at Indiana 7:00 pm- The loser of this game should drop football. Indiana wins.
Northern Illinois at Minnesota 8:30 pm- I really like NIU in the upset. Minnesota is not very good.

First Im going say I think this may be a bad outing for the MAC this week.
With that said, here are my week 4 picks

Buffalo at Connecticut I dont think Buffalo will be able to pull this win off

Toledo at Purdue Purdue will win this game BIG!!

Cent. Michigan at Northwestern I think Northwestern being the home team will be a big factor in a Wildcat victory

Bowling Green at (21) Michigan Once again, another Bias prediction but I honestly think we may have a chance to win tomorrow!!

Ball St. at (18) Iowa Have mercy on Ball States souls, this is going to be a utter beating

Miami at Missouri Mizzou wins BIG

Temple at (23) Penn St. Penn State wins this one

East. Michigan at (2) Ohio St. Well ummm, we may see a new record for points scored in a college football game. Isnt the record currently 108 by Wyoming? The Buckeyes may score more so Pryor and get his stats.

Ohio at Marshall I feel sorry for my friend Scott here. He is a huge Marshall fan and a Ohio Alum. His thundering Terds will get their first win of the season here.

Akron at Indiana Hoosiers will win this one

Northern Illinois at Minnesota I think the Huskies could have a chance in this one seeing the Gophers got beat by the NDSU Bison.

Hope to see a few MAC upsets this week but doubt there will be many. BG and NIU have the best chance, other than that the only other upset you may see IMHO is Buffalo and maybe possibly Ohio.
