I love being in the FBS, period. I hate the mere thought of dropping down in competition – in anything – let alone football. There are many schools out there trying and wanting to be exactly at the level we are. We are one of 120 schools competing at the highest level of play in FBS football and there’s nowhere I would rather be. And more teams are fighting to get right where we are all the time. It sounds like UT San Antonio, Texas State and Montana could be coming up soon as well.

What’s crazy to me is, when we’re struggling like we are now, this is what creeps into people’s minds. But just remember what it was like just a handful of years ago when we were in the Top 25, beating BCS teams, being mentioned as a BCS buster. It was awesome! Were we talking about the idea of dropping down to a lower level then? Heck no! We’re 1-5 overall, 0-2 in the MAC right now and this is what is being discussed. But if we were 5-1 overall, 2-0 in the MAC, we’re singing a different tune.

We’ll get this turned around sooner or later under Clawson, I believe that. We’re very young and are taking our lumps, but hopefully (fingers crossed) this will pay dividends down the road in a year or two when all of these freshmen are experienced upperclassmen. But if the day comes were we decided to drop down a level of competition, it’ll be the day I find a new team to cheer for and follow, even if it’s not my school. I care way too much about my school, one that I am proud of, to say I wouldn’t mind if we dropped. I would. I try my best to support BG with donations, season tickets, going on road trips, all the flights & hotels, etc. I care about MAC football more than even the BCS race. I know that puts me in a minority across the board, but I don’t care. I don’t care about the FCS much, or that BCS for that matter, but I do about BG and being in the MAC & FBS. And that’s enough for me.
GO BG!!!

Exactly 33. If there is anything really happening, it is that 1AA is dying. Schools want out if they can at all make it. They'll be another dozen or more 1A schools over the coming years. Splitting the division was a mistake. 1AA will wither, the brand of football will suffer. Because it is a lesser grade of competition, and as the top schools leave, there just are not more and more kids to fill the schools that remain.

From the University's standpoint, I'm guessing there would not be enough enrollment/donation related value gained from being an FCS school to justify continuing with the program, given the monetary losses we've been sustaining. FBS or bust.
