I love Jovon Leacock and Willie Cooper and their contributions, but it speaks volumes about our broader personnel situation that they're playing such pivotal roles as first year walk-ons who we didn't even really know about until shortly before the season began.

Futilly trying to jam Willie Geter up the middle instead of getting him outside along the perimeter doesn't much help things, either.

Jovon Leacock is a JUCO transfer and Cooper is the same so I highly doubt they are walk-ons

They're both walk-ons per Clawson.

Again, the point wasn't about them specifically but rather how incredibly inexperienced this team is across the board. In the preseason, Phil Steele's magazine had BG ranked the 3rd youngest team in the nation. I bought the "we're young, but talented" line and it proved to be somewhat true before the injuries and schedule caught up to them and the bottom fell out.

As bad as this is, it's becoming clear that it's not going to be a quick fix. I just hope the overall team psyche isn't shot by the time they start to mature and the talent level evens out.

I think it is indeed an amazingly young team. And it has played well enough to show what it can be, even as young as it is. Still, that youth has clearly not been able to overcome inexperience, nerves, etc. That makes the coaching of the team almost as much a mental as anything. These kids can get set to think they can't win, or other issues.

Going back to the UB game, we can beat-up on the defense, but I actually think they did rather well. Considering how piss-poor the Offense was moving the ball, that BGSU was a field-goal away from a win as time ran-out, is staggering.

Yup. There was a lot of hope as the year started, but reality is that this team is not a good one. It can and I hope will become a good team, over several years, but this is not a quick turn-around. It is a scratch-build program.

This is pretty much where I'm at.

Yes, I also find some of the playcalling things frustrating at times, but I really think Clawson inherited a program in total shambles. It was set up for a HUGE crash after the '09 season because we just didn't have much talent in our upper classes. Between losing schollies for the academic reasons to all the washouts/failures we had you just can't survive with the types of classes we had.

I'm just thrilled that we didn't wait until the crash came before finding a new coach. I do still think Clawson is the guy that can grow us out of this. Unfortunately, there was no quick fix. I love Urban Meyer as much as the next guy, but there is no doubt that there was talent on the team when he got here...we needed somebody to come in and get them to play to their potential. Unfortunately Clawson didn't inherit a program in nearly as good of shape as Meyer did, and given the way Blackney's tenure ended, that's pretty astonishing...and frustrating...

I sure hope you guys are right because I have a difficult time being optimistic with what I am seeing. I don't want to be the 'hate the coach guy' but I can't help but be unimpressed. Being terrible against Michigan is one thing, but against OU and Buffalo is an entirely different story. Yes we still had a chance to beat Buffalo but that was darn near miraculous considering the way we played.

I didn't expect to go 500 this year, but I didn't expect to go 1-11 either. 1-11 looks real possible right now.

All this garbage about the team is "too young" is an excuse. IMHO your either good enough or your not to play at the D1 level. Saying we are too young is an excuse. Heck, the last two heisman trophy winners were sophomores nobody said they were too young. This years front runner as of now is also a sophomore from that school up north that took us out behind the wood-shed. We are either good enough or not, the young theory is being thrown around as a "wait till next year" philosophy. This comes down to coaching and execution on the field of players. If the players can't execute then find new ones or maybe, just maybe you shoudn't of recruited them. Freshman and sophomore have excelled at the D1 level before, BG is not an exception. We should NOT have to settle as Falcon fans.

Nathan and HammB summed it up very well, I think. A couple other things to remember...we are on the road for the 5th time in 7 games this week...and road games against solid teams. That travel will wear you down. Injuries have hit hard on the O line and we've had more guys play there than Paris Hilton has boyfriends. Missed assignments, poor (and sometimes very predictable) playcalling also add to the struggle. We need to see leaders step up on the sidelines and get on guys not playing to their potential. I'm interested to see how the staff handles the team this week.

I can't wait to see what kind of team emerges Sat in Phila. That will go a long way in telling how the season is gonna play out. They better have the chinstraps buckled up and ready to hit...Temple will be.

GO FALCONS...
