Wright just hooked a FG, no good. I think it's time to look at other kickers on the roster for FG's and XP's. We know Phillips hasn't gotten it done. What about Stephen Stein or Matt Oczypok? Anyone know about them? Or is Wright our best kicker? He has been decent on kickoffs and punting but hasn't for place kicks.
I find it hard to believe we can't get this corrected.

Clawson said last week it isn't gonna change, still basing stuff off camp. Too bad that was 9 weeks ago, and performances should be based off in-game situations. He's being very stubborn about this situation.

Re: Jerry Phillips
How'd those other kickers look in practice this week?
I will say Wright's punting has been pretty consistently good this year...

Re: Jerry Phillips
I've seen enough from Wright on all levels at this point to say it's time to get other guys in there. We are in major rebuilding mode at this point and I would much rather see our kickers also out there taking their lumps in games like we are at a lot of other positions to better themselves over the next year or two than watch a grad student continue to make very bad plays out there that arguably have cost us games. His place kicking has been very so-so but in the MAC, it's been very bad and then today it was terrible with a missed PAT, a missed FG and then the punt disaster that led to a TD. It's time to put a guy with years ahead of him in there. They could "possibly" help us next season because Wright can't. Heck, he's more hurting us than even playing even for us at this point. If it was me out there performing like that I would expect people to say the same thing about myself.

Listen to Clawson at his press conferences and he consistently tells you that the other guys are not getting it done in practice. If they are going to earn a chance to replace Wright, they have to show the coach in practice that they can get it done.jpfalcon09 wrote:Clawson said last week it isn't gonna change, still basing stuff off camp. If the other kickers are worse than Wright, I shutter to think what next year is going to be like.

Re: Jerry Phillips
Wright cost us:
1 point on missed xtra point
3 points on missed field goal---very makeable.
7 points on "butchering" a snap that was at his knees and then not kicking the ball out of the end zone to get us a safety instead of a touchdown.
7 points on a 18 yard punt that ended up giving Temple a short field and their only scoring drive of any distance, other than the 2 big plays, of the day.
Punters and kickers should never effect a game like this. However, he punted pretty good, in the middle of the game and did change field position with a couple of punts over 50 yards.

Re: Jerry Phillips
I know that Wright has taken heat for some kicking problems, but has ANYONE checked out the snaps, spots etc. on the kicks to see if there are other things involved. I was out of state, didn't see the Buffalo game obviously, saw Part of the Temple game (but not the missed XP and FG)... when a kick is blocked, usually other things play into it i.e. breakdown of blocking to allow penetration, or a bad snap or spot. Yes, kickers sometimes goof and don't get enough lift on the kick to clear onrushing defenders... I'm not saying these things HAVE happened, just asking if you guys saw anything that contributed to the problem... I DID see the goofed punt, so this WAS on Wright.

RE: The Buffalo game
Not sure if this had ANYTHING at all to do with the field goal going right by 1 foot, but Clawson wanted to put in another football for the field goal attempt, but the officials would not allow him to do so. Evidently the rule is that he should have been allowed to have the special ball in because there was a time out. Not really sure of the rule and if this had anything to do with the miss (maybe it's a MAC officials conspiracy).
