BG likened to regime of Pol Pot

Post by JoeFalcon »

Prominent college football writers have begun to draw parallels between the current state of the BGSU football program and the oppressive regime of the former Cambodian communist dictator.

In their view, the failure to address the special teams protection units is akin to the refusal of the Khmer Rouge to address the mass starvation caused by their failed collectivist schemes. Clawson’s reluctance to open up the offense was equated to the stubborn refusal of humanitarian aid and basic human rights to the brutalized rural laborers.

Surely this can’t be helping recruiting or player retention much.

While I have my issues with Clawson's and Ruggiero's offense this year, to liken them...in jest or not...to a brutal dictator that reportedly killed over a million of his own people, is really out of bounds IMHO.

It was meant in jest, but the target was some of the sensationalized hyper-negative headings/references that have been made about the team, not the team itself.

If I were to liken them to an actual political regime, I would have chosen, say, the town council of Racine, Wisconsin or the Calvin Coolidge administration.

1000% Agree! I was thoroughly sickened when I read that post....SERIOUSLY????? Comparing a SPORT to something as horrific as that is more than a little out of bounds. IT'S JUST WRONG. PERIOD. Watch the movie "The Killing Fields" and you will know what I mean! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087553/

(btw, I disapprove of the post TOPIC not the poster)
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."
