I LIKE your nickname sportydude. Of course that probably condemns you forever on this board. I do think its to bad that too people here disagree about Clawson and have two bring grammar into.
...bring grammar into it.

You don't like my post? Well, what's your problem with?

You're letting your TU, err, UT education leak through, h20....
I think it's stupid to worry about who is better and who BG should have hired. First, despite what the mental giants at the Blade may have written about Beckman being a candidate at BG, he was already in the Toledo fold before anything at BG got serious. BG was still putting feelers out. If both searches would have started at the same time, who knows????? Beckman could have ended up at BG.
That said, Clawson was not a bad pick for BG. A head coach has to surround himself with good assistants. The head coach cannot do everything, but he is ultimately responsible for everything. Clawson surrounded himself with good enough assistants to take BG to a bowl game last year with some good talent. But everyone knew this year would be tough without Barnes and the QB you had.....sorry, can't remember his name.
And Clawson has shown that he is the right guy to clean up the problems in the program. He's dealt with discipline in a proper fashion.
Personally, I think Beckman was the right person for Toledo and Clawson the right person for BG. Despite what factman wants to say about him taking JUCO players and chances on kids, he has the right plans in place for academics and the team's GPA has improved significantly since he came aboard. For the 2011 recruiting class, Toledo will not have any scholarship reductions because of APR issues for the first time in a long time. That is all because of what Beckman has done. And many of the mid-year guys were players with still 3 or 4 years of eligibility. Only 3-4 were guys with just 2 years of experience left.
yep RF.......some of us know a helluva lot more about things than you may know. Unbelievable isn't it! A lot of us have known "Buckeye" Tim for ten years or more, and some of us have even gotten to know Coach Clawson in his couple of years in BG. Not saying Beckman hasn't done a decent job in cleaning up the mess he inherited, but you might want to make sure he doesn't have a "big spill" on the way out the door, for someone else to mop up. His character shows with he and his staff and their "negative" recruiting methods. It loses credibility with many HS players and coaches in the long run. After he gets done pating himself on the back, there is not a lot of substance left. Carry on!

I have a cartoon on my office wall- two dogs in suits sitting at a bar drinking martinis. The one says to the other "Its not enough to succeed. Cats must also fail." I think that sums up this thread.
Hey peregine or whatever your name is. You seem to be hanging on my jock a little tight. I'm glad you have taken such an interest in my posts. You even went so far as to bring up a post I made on another topic, drag it in here and twist it around. If you knew anything about college football you would know that Al Golden is a legitimate candidate to replace Jo Pa once he retires and most college football insiders feel he is the front runner. So you can mock me if you wish but it really shows your ignorance.

Well of course that's the answer, but most BG fans will never admit to that because they have a hatred towards Beckman because he used to coach at BG and he has ties to Ohio State. That's a double whammy in their book. Add to that the fact that he is the head coach of their hated rival, and yeah......BG fans are mostly going to see he is bad news.

Please explain these "negative" recruiting methods he and his staff are using. You shouldn't make those kind of accusations without backing it up with some sort of evidence.
As for what the future holds....who knows for both coaches. When you're in the MAC, you're coach either moves on because of how successful he was, or he gets let go/resigns with a program in a sad state because eventually he lost momentum. That's the nature of the beast. Neither Clawson nor Beckman will be at BG and UT forever. Both will likely have ups and downs. That's life. There's no sense stressing yourself out over what might happen.
