Harrison is a crazy person. He's absolutely insane. I don't know if what he did was legal or illegal or if he'll get fined or suspended. I do know I'm terrified of him, and if opposing players were smart, they would be too. I thought both hits were borderline. I could see arguments for and against flags and fines. A suspension would be total BS, and won't happen.

I thought McCoy was meh. He racked up a lot of his yards when the Steelers started laying back in the 4th with a lead. Until then, I thought once he got hit, he started looking at the rush if his first read wasn't open immediately. Understandable against that D as a rook.

To be honest, I thought he looked a lot like an NFL version of Tyler Sheehan, if Tyler Sheehan were a midget. If his first read is there, he has enough accuracy and arm strength to get it there, generally on-time, and generally very catchable. If his first read isn't there, all hell breaks loose.

Cleveland absolutely has to let him play the rest of the year. Wallace and Delhomme aren't taking anybody anywhere. They need to find out if they think McCoy can.

I was just happy with the miracle eff you cover.

Oh, and cut Eric Wright today.

Harrison got a $75K fine, none of the players got suspended from this weekend.

I'm glad to see helmet to helmet fines are significantly larger than tweeting from the locker room.

You must be joking. The hit on MM was the reason the penalty was implemented. Harrison has the right to hit him, but not up near his head.

And this is an excerpt from Gregg Easterbrook's Tuesday Morning Quarterback on ESPN.com:
"Existing rule 12, 2, 7g bans "using any part of a player's helmet (including the top/crown and forehead/hairline parts) or facemask to butt, spear, or ram an opponent violently or unnecessarily," and also states, "violent or unnecessary use of the helmet is impermissible against any opponent.""

By rule then, the hit on Cribbs was illegal as well. In both instances, he lead with his head and hit the opponent in the head. Both should have been penalties.

You can interpret the rules different ways. I don't think he led with his head on the hit with MM. Watch it frame by frame. Was the hit necessary? no, but he plays aggressive. Cribbs was carrying the ball on the play and by one interepretation of the rule it was legal.

Mendenhall had a helmet to helmet hit on him in the 4th, but he was carrying the ball. Legal hit.
Harrison's fine ended up being more highest. I thought the hit on Heap was intentional cheap shot.

Colt McCoy should start on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints. After the Bye Week, if Seneca Wallace is healthy, he needs to be the starter. Let McCoy finish the year as a backup, get some reps in the large amount of garbage time that should be available as the season progresses and let the two battle it out in Training Camp next year. Delhomme should be cut during the Bye week. This is the only move that I have been upset with by Mike Holmgren. Lesson learned, move on and chalk it up as a loss. Seneca Wallace has been ten times better than expected on this team. He and Peyton Hillis led us to our only win so far. Our WR's need to get fixed, and fast! Also, anyone else interested in Shawne Merriman? I am!

As for James Harrison, both of those hits should have been penalized. As was noted, these are the types of hits that the NFL is trying to get rid of. Even the announcers were flabbergasted that the Browns got called for a Delay of Game penalty while James Harrison got nothing. Roles reversed, I would be pizzed if we got a flag but more pizzed that the player on my team was dumb enough to do exactly what you're not supposed to do. TJ Ward, for example, deserved to be flagged for the hit on Jordan Shipley and should have known better than to hit someone like that. His nickname is "Trauma," what do you expect? I blame the Hit Stick in Madden.

I read the NFL was actually selling photos on their website of one of the hits Harrison was fined. They had a lot of complaints and now have removed it.

I had chalked the New Orleans win up to some trickery, getting up for the defending champs, whatever... but HOLY CRAP! Woof!

Damn right WOOF!

I'm really starting to think I may have been wrong about Colt McCoy. He made some nice reads and throws today. He also made some plays with his feet while still looking downfield to get the ball to his WRs. That's right, a Browns QB got the ball to his WRs! Not as much as a great passing team would, but it was nice to see Massoquoi & even Robiskie catching some balls.

Was nice to see a Mangini coached team let the young QB throw the ball downfield as well. I'm still not sold on Mangini, but he's showing more creativity than I ever expected from him.

Next week, they need to try a legitimate fumblerooski, though. :P

Just unbelievable how this team has gotten leads on two of the better teams in the league and kept the throttle down.

hammb, I sure hope you were wrong about McCoy too! You may be right about some of his physical skills/limitations, but there seems to be some serious intangibles with this kid. He is extremely confident and dammit, he just wins. I know his stats aren't that impressive, but he is also not making any mistakes. That was a fun game to be at today.

And here is why I love Josh Cribbs. He never takes a play off. Even when the QB is scrambling down the field, he could just ease up and let the play finish out. But no, he is looking for someone to block and that block he laid on the defender on McCoy's TD run was incredible. (FWIW, I think that is the next type of play that the NFL is going to start cracking down on. You really don't even have to hit the defender, just let him run into you. Since he never sees the offensive blocker, the defender's going down with any kind of hit. Seeing blockers lambaste guys chasing a play is fun, but a lot of times the hit is unnecessary.)

I hope the Browns tell Seneca Wallace this week to keep his mouth shut about starting if he's healthy. McCoy has easily done enough to earn his spot over the second half of the season. McCoy made good decisions throughout the game - running the ball on the touchdown, throwing it away a couple times, giving the receivers a fighting chance on the two deep balls, etc. I am looking forward to seeing how he does against Revis and the NYJ defense next weekend.

I think the Browns need superstar playmaker(s) on both sides of the ball, but the steadiness of most of the guys on this team - Hillis, Vickers, the offensive line, Rubin, Gocong/Fujita/Roth, defensive backs, and every one of the specials teams players - is necessary to build a good team. If only we could get back 2 or 3 plays to have the record sit at 5-3 instead of 3-5. I know that every win drops this team further down the draft board and we aren't going to playoffs without a 7-1 or 8-0 finish, but I can't get enough of watching the Browns win games.
