Cornish hens

Apart from slipping in to a poultry farm under the cover of night, does anyone know a local (H2Oville, Toledo, BG area) source for FRESH hens? I called several of the usual suspects (House of Meats, Sauter's, Kroger) and could only find frozen. I did 6 for friends and made a cranberry/ sage stuffing with fresh sage from the garden and it was beyond exquisite but I keep thiinking that they might have been that much better fresh.

I'd probably check the smaller locally owned butcher shops. Probably could just call them. Might be one of those things they could get, but don't carry all the time...especially fresh.

I can't say I've ever seen fresh game hens, but it's worth a shot. Other than that I'd try looking for actual poultry farms and see if there are any that sell fresh Hens. I know there are a few around that will sell fresh Turkeys, especially this time of year, so maybe they'd have hens too?

Yeah, poultry farms is a good idea and one I planned to pursue but not sure who raises them. A research project. when I was a kid a couple wandered into our garage from a farm about a mile away. My all too ethical parents called the farmer who picked them up. But that was forty fi- uhhh, more than ten years ago.
