It just looked bad on TV because the UT ushers don't let anyone sit in the lower bowl on the visiting side near mid-field without a ticket. So you see a bunch of empty seats in the lower bowl.

Two thoughts...I was surprised how empty it looked on TV, and I don't understand people leaving at halftime. They do it at BG too. Probably not at your larger schools, though.

I know I won't be there, but it won't be because I choose not to be. Heck, I get in for free with my student ID. However, I work at Wally World, and for some reason people like to shop on that day. I'm scheduled to work in the accounting office 11-8, but I'll have the radio tuned in and hope I can pick up the broadcast.bgsufalcon24 wrote:If you thought our attendance was bad for Miami, just wait for the Western Mich game in 8 days. Given the opponent, likelihood for bad weather, our record, and the horrible date/time (I've NEVER liked playing home games the day after Thanksgiving as it's a major pain in the butt for students and for alumni not in the greater BG area), we could be counting in the hundreds.

I've never understood it either. Why would you go to a game at all if you did not care about the final outcome? I understand to some degree that football games are big social events, but it seems like they are treated as little more than a warm-up for partying/getting drunk by a major portion of the BG fanbase, and that's just wrong.orangeandbrown wrote:Two thoughts...I was surprised how empty it looked on TV, and I don't understand people leaving at halftime. If you were only going to stay at the game for half the game, instead of leaving it halftime, wouldn't it make more sense to get to the stadium at halftime and stay until the end? At least in that scenario you see whether your team wins or loses. In 6 years of going to BG football games, I've only left a game before the end once, the 2006 Miami mud bowl game.

The late start and the fact that the game was on a school/work night affected the number of folks staying. The west side remained pretty full until the end of the third quarter but the cameras are on that side so shots of it were rare. Game was over midway through the first quarter so students who didn't want to stay up until midnight and folks who had to be at work early took off at the half. They always do but not to the extent they did Saturday.
One of the more exciting games I've seen recently was OU-BG last year-came down to final play in front of nearly empty stands. And that was a Saturday day game. I don't understand it but I'm diehard- I was still in the stadium half an hour after the game ended Wednesday.

I remember the 09 Ohio-BG game quite vividly, that was a wild afternoon and yes, most BG fans left well before the outcome was decided. In fact, everybody I had gone to the game with left early too. My best guess for why it was so empty is that Ohio was winning by 3 touchdowns late in the 3rd quarter and everybody figured the game was over. The Falcons staged a furious comeback late and had Barnes been able to come up with that tipped/jump ball on 4th down, might have come out with a victory (and gone to the MAC Championship Game as it turned out)h2oville rocket wrote:bgsufalcon24 wrote:I've never understood it either. I don't get the leaving early thing. I stayed to the bitter end of the Tulsa-GMAC Bowl beating and Temple breaking its losing streak against BG. Gotta take the good with the bad, I think.
Then again, I'm always making a special trip to see BG, so maybe that gives me a different perspective.

Heck, I'll freely admit UT had the better team this year. As the old saying goes, even a pipsqueak coach on Bancroft Street finds a step stool every once in a while.Falconfreak90 wrote:C'mon TJ...fabricate lies? 39-32...that ain't no lie. Speaking of fabricating lies, where is the biggest brown kool-aid drinker of them all at? Oh JoeyFalcon! Come out and get yer medicine!
But the overall record (and last 3 years) isn't kool-aid even if it's difficult for UT fans to swallow.
