A very concerning thing looking ahead to next year is.....
....for as young of a team as we actually are, we're going to lose nearly half of our starters from this year's team next season as we have nine senior starters out there now, which also doesn't including an additional two more players in our special teams with a punter & snapper who will also be gone.

OMG! NNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! THE SKY IS FALLING! THE SKY IS FALLING! WE MUST TELL THE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR!
You're always a breath of recycled air. We lose seniors every year. We're also gaining quite a few seniors and juniors for next year.
I think I like you better as a Bobcat fan.

It's okay to point out negative. I get that, but at least put some thought into it. It's like saying, "well, summer is gone and we had some fantastic weather days during the year."Globetrotter wrote:No pointing out negative things!
It's a negative but puts ZERO thought into the potential for the future. What, we're never going to have another summer? There's never going to be senior starters next year?
EVERY team loses seniors every year and if you don't look at nor weigh the total picture, you're just making posts to make posts. It gets O-L-D. Like ME kinda old.
I wouldn't expect you to agree, Globetrotter.

What you may not realize is that some of those redshirted players that are not playing this year are better than some of those seniors that are playing and will take their place next year. Why would we do that, you ask? Very simple.........to make them better players and Bowling Green a better team, in the long run.

After this season, I'm not seeing a negative about losing those 9 seniors. At the home games our team lacks intensity, the Kent game especially. Really after 2-8 there is no where to go but up

My thoughts on last nights game:
1. Clearly we did not show up in the 1st quarter end of story.
2. I continue to worry about the QB position; Last night he looked inaccurate on many throws and most discouraging to me was the lack of heart he showed on the 3rd down QB draw in the thrid quarter when we are driving. Look like he was scared to get hit.
3. How we can't find a Kicker baffles me. Although kicking a 37 yard field goal when your kicking has been that bad down by three scores is a questionable call at best.
4. I was encouraged that WE MADE HALF TIME ADJUSTMENTS; something that never happened under GB
4. The O-Line will improve Russo was getting killed out there, but at least he stepped up and took on the challenge
5. Boo Boo Gates and Cam Truss are very exciting young player to me. I have some hope for Hopgood as well looks like he can catch the ball and hit the hole hard.
6. I hope the lack of winning doesnt cause players to transfer; kids want to win right away today and when they dont they sometimes look for greener pastures
Just my 2 cents

Kids don't always transfer because of losing. They may transfer for many reasons, the most common being:60yearsofsicsic wrote:My thoughts on last nights game:

1. Lack of playing time, and the prospect of little playing time in the future. This happens when a player steps up and has little or no chance of playing till they are seniors.
2. Opportunity to go to a larger program. This can be to improve their NFL stock, or to follow a life dream of playing for a big school they didn't get a look at.

Re: A very concerning thing looking ahead to next year is...
I think the original poster makes a great point. All I've heard on this board all season is how young we are and after every loss posters use the we are so young excuse. Well 9 senior starters is not so young and by losing them it means there will be at least 9 New starters next year on top of any new freshman or redshirts that will start for us next year. So if we enter next season with say 14 New starters accounting for the 9 we lost and maybe another 4 or 5 redshirts true frosh or someone who earns a spot will we be using the Young excuse next year as well? I find that many on this board are just blind followers and rip anyone who brong up something that be looked at as negative. Someone please go back and look at one of my orginal threads from last December after the bowl game.. I said this is a 2-10 team with freddy Barnes and I was ripped on.. Well looks like I was right on..

You said without Barnes and Sheehan, this is a 2-3 win team. There wasn't much contradiction to that specific assertion. There was actually more agreement and "wait and see" than simply ripping you. Why? Because no one knew what to expect in the off season or for next year - including myself.sportydude1818 wrote:I said this is a 2-10 team with freddy Barnes and I was ripped on.. I made a slight about "some" of your observations being negative - which in hindsight is still a funny quip - especially as hung over as I was. I crack myself up.
Congratulations on your prognostications. Your image of yourself has been vindicated.
I don't want to tick off Grant more than I have so I'm just going to slink away.

I dont think we would do that. Not if they are better then Senior starters.factman wrote:What you may not realize is that some of those redshirted players that are not playing this year are better than some of those seniors that are playing and will take their place next year. Re: A very concerning thing looking ahead to next year is...
So we are a better team by not playing players that are better then our starters. That logic makes flat out no sense. Backups, potentially but if you look at our 2 deep it is loaded with Freshman and includes a handful of true freshman. I really doubt we don't get redshirt guys minutes who are clearly better then starters. If it would be a situation where they would be backups and not get a ton of time then we could be wasting a year. As starters we would not be wasting that year.factman wrote:![]()
Re: A very concerning thing looking ahead to next year is...
I'm not really worried about losing seniors on a team that is going to win 2 or 3 games.
Re: A very concerning thing looking ahead to next year is...
If the coaches are not playing freshman with better talent for the better "big picture" of the team, they shouldn't be coaching. I can see not playing a true freshman in the last game or two, to keep a red shirt, but other than that, you play the best talent. That can also be a good recruiting tool. If you're a freshman coming in, and you are better than a senior, you will start! I'm not concerned about the talent on the team, or the athletic ability of our O-line. I AM concerned about the level of intensity I see during the game. Too many players standing around during plays watching, both on offense and defense. I don't care if the player was just moved to a new position, and doesn't know all the plays, you still go out and go after it with intensity until the whistle. Back in the day, we ran onto the field with an attitude...with something to prove. Now, I'm sorry, but I don't see that. That's what concerns me.
