Dropping Season tickets

Post by gmartin »

As I sit here in the stands I am debating on whether to renew season tickets for next year. I live 4 1/2 hours away and been season ticket holder since 1995, 15 years now but this is getting ridiculous. Our game time atmosphere flat out sucks. Even muncie, only an hour drive for me run a better game day environment. I spend over 9 hours of drive time to watch this performance. We have no home field advantage. Ever since that fat runner for CMU burned us decades ago we never won a MAC championship. And to pay almost 100.00 for season tickets, not including the 250.00 spent is gas, why should I renew. They always have special promotions, people handing out free tickets. And I bet we have less than 5000 here today. If we cannot perform better than this and our athletic dept cannot give a better game day atmosphere, scheduling, etc we may as well drop down to FCS. Enough said

I feel your pain. I have never been a season ticket holder; however, I try to attend every game that I can. Due to work and my kids involvement with sports, many games are just impossible for me to attend. But I still average 2 to 3 home games a year. Even with the poor play of the team this year, I'm still proud to say I'm a falcon. Dropping down to FCS because of a piss-poor season? I don't think so. We should expect great results out of this team over the next few years. Pick your heads up people.

Then do it.

As far as today... with our record and how cold and windy it was, it being black Friday and students on break, I'm not surprised with the turnout. Mostly everyone there left after the band played at halftime. The team is pretty bad but I don't blame you for not wanting to renew season tickets and drive 9 hours for a football game. When they are good again I'm sure all the casual fans will come back and the game atmosphere will be tolerable as long as we are winning. See you then! btw I'm not implying you are a casual fan Gmartin... I notice from reading the threads you're one of the most dedicated falcon fans.

This season sucked. But our record could easily have been different. I have faith Clawson will get us back to a bowl game within a couple seasons.

Was at Frickers watching the rest of the Auburn - Bama game. First of all I will still come to every home game next year and years to come. I am just saying that with the bad game day atmosphere, the annoying music, annoying announcers and currently bad product I will just buy a GA ticket. Season ticket holders do not get the extra benefits they deserve. With all the deals and BBQ promotions, ticket specials, etc, I could have saved 28.00 on tickets. That may not sound like much but frankly the season ticket holders are getting screwed.

And stop scheduling games day after thanksgiving. Get rid of the bye, mid week games, etc and end the season the Sat before Thanksgiving like it used to be. Having 5100 at a college Div 1 game is pathetic. A high school game last week outdrawn us.

Greg Christopher it is time you step up and compensate the season ticket holders before more of them get frustrated. NO WAY SHOULD SEASON TICKET HOLDERS PAY 30 PERCENT MORE OVER THE COURSE OF THE YEAR!!!!

I have an idea, how about they give the basketball/football season ticket holder that stayed the entire game today a few xtra "points" for getting into the Stroh next year. I was there from wire to wire today on the east side with about 100 other people. (mostly Western fans)

Given the cheapest ticket available (student guest ticket) you could have a season ticket in the general admission sections for $45.

Gmartin, I agree totally! I gave up my season tickets 2 or 3 years ago. Why buy a full season and pay more when any game you want you can get tickets for free or nearly free.

I was there from start to finish with my 7 year old son today. It's still BG, and it's still football. It's not the end result we wanted, but we are still supporting!

I will definitely renew my season tix next year, and the year after that and so on. I'm onboard to support the school. I go because I have a good time, and I'm reminded of the good times I had when I attended.

If you want to make a statement, write some letters. Not renewing your season tix only further compounds the problem. I look at the price I pay for season tix as assistance to the university, not as the least expensive way for me to attend games. I understand that they give away tickets, but I prefer to KNOW that I'm doing something to help my alma mater. I'm not loaded, but I can afford my two season tix.

I tip my hat to all of you who hold season tickets. I don't, and I live closer than most of you. I'm just not a fan of week night and holiday weekend games, and since the MAC became a late season lackie for ESPN that's about all there is in November. If athletics are really for the student body, why schedule games on class nights or when students are away? I was at the UT game this year, but an 8 PM kick-off on a Wednesday night ... give me a break. Let's face it, games in the MAC don't have national implications and should be played for fun and enjoyment. Unfortunately, they're not much fun anymore.

We go to a bowl game last year..... 1/2 of our losses this year are by 3 points or two possessions..... we are arguably one of the youngest team in the country...... and people want to bail.

If you don't like the game day experience...... get involved.

I can only speak for myself. I will never stop buying season tix and I've had them since 1996, 6 years after graduating from BG. I've seen some lean years and some absolutely great years. This year was very painful and disappointing but dropping season tix is something that never crosses my mind. First of all, it is BG FOOTBALL...my favorite team on the planet. Nothing else comes close to that for me, but that's just me. Second, it supports the student-athletes of the University I love....my alma mater. Third, through this site, we now have an kick azz tailgate group that comes together every year and enjoys the pre and post game festivities. These are lifelong friendships that have evolved and I love hanging with you all. I live 2 1/2 hours away from BG so it isn't like I can drive over town. I feel your pain, gmartin, about gas prices and additional costs (like the freakin highway robbery taking place on the Ohio Turnpike these days. To go from I 77 near Cleveland/Akron to the Perrysburg exit is now SIX DOLLARS & SEVENTY FIVE CENTS...ONE WAY. Bite me. I'll take 224 to 20 to 6 every time now, or some variation of that.)

We all knew this was gonna be a challenging year from the start. I was extremely encouraged by the first 3 games but then the injuries started to pile up and our execution went south. I would lay some, some of the blame on the lack of leadership on the part of the players. I did not see anyone really step up all year and get in people's faces or pump guys up on the sidelines. THAT needs to change in the off season...we need guys to step up and take ownership of this team. Absolutely blame lies with the coaching staff as well...they didn't do the job needed to make this a better team. I am confident Coach Clawson is still the man for the job. One year will not change my mind...now, if 2-3 years from now we are still lagging behind? Fine, make the changes. As Hammb pointed out earlier in the season, Brandon did not leave the program in very good shape and that only compounded the problems this year.

Hey, according to my count, it is only 280 days until the season opener at Idaho next year and we have some payback for those potato eaters. :tonqe: So, I am counting the days down starting today and looking forward to a much better 2011 season. AS ALWAYS, GO FALCONS!!!!!!!!!!!

I dropped mine 2 years ago and didn't get the Flex Pack this year because the scheduled times stunk for me. Give me 5-6 games on Saturday afternoons and I'll probably buy them again. I do hope that the AD can review the season tickets and come up with something to make it more valuable than buying individual tickets.

The gameday experience isn't great, but I wouldn't even notice if we were winning. I'm a lot more concerned about how the team that played Troy and Tulsa would have whipped the team that played Western Michigan.

Tech? Don't be calling me out? My parents and I have given over 1/4 million of dollars to this university since the days of Thurmond, Komives, and the mid 60s. I have missed less than 5 home games since 1985. I been to every single bowl game. Season tickets in basketball, football and hockey but can't make it to every mid week basketball games but football I never miss.

Get involved with atmosphere. Let's see I tailgate weekly, occasionally do 50-50 tickets. Attend golf outings and other functions. Bought Bricks for the Stroh. My parents are season ticket holders for 40 years!! But when the gate people are not organized, takes two hours to leave the stadium when Minny and Boise are in town, we cannot get the ref a decent mic, we have a great band yet they insist on playing Miley Cyrus on the PA, we have a chick screaming on the PA, we had 5000 at the game yesterday and NO Toilet Paper in the restroom, and ran out of hot chocolate (went down right after the band played). How the hell can you run out of hot chocolate with at best 5000 people. Scheduling is ridiculous.

I will still come to the games but why should I pay nearly TWICE AS MUCH for my season tickets when they constantly run individual promotions? I am sure others feel the same way. Not sure what more I can do to help with gameday atmosphere that you say I should do.
