UMass interested in joining the MAC
UMass interested in joining the MAC
It's being reported today that the Minutemen are interested in jumping to FBS and becoming a football-only member of the MAC. They're a pretty average CAA team right now, so I don't know if they'd be much better talent wise than Western Kentucky is in the Sun Belt. But, it'd certainly help the numbers.

Re: UMass interested in joining the MAC
I hate "football only" members, but I'd assume UMass wouldn't dream of leaving A-10 for MAC in basketball especially. If Temple ended up staying a bit longer, it would at least even up the divisions and give us the Boston market.

Re: UMass interested in joining the MAC
UMass almost beat Michigan in Ann Arbor so they probably would have killed us as well lol. Although I am not a huge fan of football only schools it is a good move, like drumstyx says to give the MAC more exposure around the Boston area. It would also be kinda nice to get the MAC to 14 members. Even out the conference however would this mean we would have to drop to the west again? Geographically it should be Miami that would have to move to the west. For UMass being a WKU clone, maybe? But it looks like they may have some talent or had a major fluke going into Ann Arbor.

From a source inside one of the two offices I have heard it is pretty much a done deal unless Big East comes in at the last second which is what UMass would hold out for, but that doesn't look likely.

I like it but probably just because its new. I dont know how we really benefit from this but it seems fun.
Re: UMass interested in joining the MAC
Getting established in the Philly market was supposed to increase exposure and help upgrade MAC football. Seems like the more exposure we get the crappier our teams become.

If this true, hopefully their band travels. That way, if our football team doesn't improve, at least the halftime shows will be good. Power and Class of New England.

Halftime shows? Sounds like a band forum discussion to me...mmisbg wrote:If this true, hopefully their band travels. That way, if our football team doesn't improve, at least the halftime shows will be good. Power and Class of New England.

One cool thing for me is that Amtrak's Northeast Regional goes right from Philly to Springfield, which is fairly close to UMass. Could make a fun roadie.
Re: UMass interested in joining the MAC
I read this morning that if they move to the FBS, UMass would play most or all of their home games at Gillette Stadium, 95 miles from their campus. That would be like BG playing their home games in Detroit.1987alum wrote:One cool thing for me is that Amtrak's Northeast Regional goes right from Philly to Springfield, which is fairly close to UMass. WH:
Not bad. That puts it even closer to two other Amtrak stations!
Agreed, though, that your fan base is going to suffer under that arrangement.
