Most of the other students that I talk to say "oh yeah, aren't they really good or something?". Beyond that, they don't really know anything about BG basketball or our women's team in particular. I think Athletics should be doing quite a bit more than what they currently do to get students informed and excited to come to games. The friends I have who live on campus told me that they heard absolutely NOTHING about hits game in the days leading up to it. The local media does a good job covering the team, but Athletic Marketing is really dropping the ball on a great, sellable product. Plus, they shat all over the band. I mean, they actually told us not to play during a timeout, then played a recording of Ay Ziggy Zoomba during said timeout... huh? Maybe we should just go home

That is really funny, because we were sitting there and ask the exact question, "Why would they be playing that over the HORRIBLE PA, when the band is here?"

WOW.....just WOW!

Exact same thing happens at hockey games....It's ridiculous!! If the band is at the games, the canned music needs to be CANNED!!!! ](*,)

It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Same here with the canned music -- WHY?? And if it were not for the gray hairs and the almost no hairs (myself) there would not have been 800 bodies in AA Wednesday night. The community knows -- But too many students will stay in their rooms or apartments to watch the BG Ten ACC or whatever ESPN is throwing out -- It's too much work to walk to AA. They don't know what they are missing. I can't believe it's because they are all working for 4.0 GPAs this semester. -- But maybe with the cost of college these days they are.

I could have played in the band on Wednesday but decided I'd scream my head off in the student section instead (since it wasn't my band). Not sure what would have ticked me off more - actually being in the band and not being able to play, or sitting out there stewing over the fact that I knew they weren't able to play because of the athletic department. I got a text before the game saying that they weren't allowed to play the entirety of halftime. I'm glad they just started playing after BGJHS got off the floor. What is the problem with the athletic department? I'm sick of it! I've been sick of it for 4 years being told time after time "No, we can't play because of (insert stupid reasoning here)." I'm writing a letter to GC.

Side note - I think the girl who comes out at halftime for marketing is the same one who screamed and screwed up everything over the PA at football games. Good Lord her voice is annoying and grating.... Never realized what a blessing Brian was until he left..

Goodluck with that letter MusicMan. I have written 6 letters in past 2 years and although I have received 5 return letters nothing has changed. They always appreciate my input among other things and say they will use my comments to make the appropriate changes but I have not seen anything change. I have not decided about if I will write a letter about the events at the Western football game. I already vented my frustrations about parking, gate and ticket attendees and ticket prices for season ticket holders but I have not said a thing about the running out of hot chocolate or no toilet paper in two separate restrooms. I wasn't able to crap then so I guess I will just remain quite now as its obviously not going to get fixed anytime soon.

I have already offered my advice and professional opinion as being in marketing for the past 10 years but nothing I have suggested has ever been taken into account. At least we still have ONE good program that puts a top notch product on the floor every single time out.

I'm not a musical person but the absolute best sound in AA is when the band gets the crowd rocking. No audio system in the world could replace our band. Love sitting on the floor with the hair on the back of my neck standing up because the band is jamming. Love walking up to AA to the sounds of our band leaking out the doors and windows. If you prefer "can" music you don't really love college basketball (go see the NBA).

Sometimes people don't realize what they have until it is gone. Maybe everyone on this board should send "Ask the AD" on BGSUFalcons.com a little note on this subject.
I proudly chose to be a Falcon and a Falcon I will remain until the end.

what 'audio system' . . . where I sit, you can't hear anything that is said.

I wonder if that is the original sound system from 1960? :smt020

As an "OLD" alum, who went to almost all athletic events while I was at BG, I'd like to know exactly WHAT the current students ARE interested in... The old excuse, "I didn't know there WAS a game" is more than a bit lame IMO. Read the BG News..look at the schedule of events (ALL, not just sporting events).. Most importantly, FOLLOW your teams in all sports if possible...I'm not saying attend every event...but how any current student could say what you've indicated, "oh yeah, aren't they really good or something?" has been living in a CAVE. It's hard for me to fathom that current students would NOT come to games when they've had the chance to do so... of course, I'm sure all our student body is interested in attaining the highest GPA possible, so "games" might take away from study time, right? :-k

61, I hear you loud and clear. It is BASKETBALL season- we have home games. Open The BG News. Look at the schedules on the walls in the res halls. Look at the schedules on the sides of buildings on big signs. Put the home games on your calendars of all types and shapes and media. Listen to WFAL. Look at the athletic web site.

I know students have many things to do. And that is great. They can pick and choose what to do- including studying of course.

But to say I don't go to the games (which are FREE) because I didn't know we had one scheduled (or no one "marketed" it to me) is a little tough to understand.

There are six freshmen guys who I have seen at every game. Somehow, someway over in Mac Hall, they figured out the game nights, they walk out their doors about fifteen minutes before tip off and watch one of the top 35 women's basketball trams in the country. And have fun doing it. Amazing!

Athletic marketing may need to do more- or much more. We certainly need to have 2000 plus at every game. But our on campus students? Just go. And if you are going like the folks on the board, take two friends with you who have never or rarely seen the women play. And don't say it's not your job. You would be right- it's not. But it would be a fun way to share your passion for one of the top teams in the country. Just a suggestion.

Love our athletic band. Love'em. Would love to see them at every single game that is not on a football game night or within a few days of Chrtistmas. They are tremendous.

Go Falcons!

I don't know anything about the dynamic between the athletic dept and the band, so this comment doesn't apply to who plays what during timeouts. But, isn't the marketing dept on their 3rd person this year already? Brian left, they had a different guy for a few weeks, and now there's still ANOTHER guy. It's got to be difficult for anyone to maintain any continuity, or to know exactly what is supposed to go on before, during and after each game.

I think the bigger problem is that there's no money to pay people in some of the support staff positions at a place like BGSU. Often at the 'mid major' schools, people are asked to work a whole lot of hours for not a whole lot of money. I'm willing to bet that BGSU is in that boat. It's going to be very difficult to have a great marketing dept -- you're going to have to hire someone who is basically right out of school and/or replace that person relatively often, when he/she leaves for a better paying job. Plus, marketing seems like a no-win profession - no matter what you do or don't do, someone is always going to complain or be unhappy with you.

three, Brian D did a wonderful job over his five years (in my opinion). That is a very long time in that position to have a person in place. The dept will likely hold a national search for his position. But there is no way that could be done Nov 1 because candidates in that field simply will not apply/move in mid year. Your candidate pool will be very thin and relatively weak if you do a search at that time of any year. So a search of that nature would be timed for closer to the end of the academic year or early spring with the intent to have a person ready for 11 fall. As far as dollars go, I have no idea. But I would say if we get a man or woman along the lines of Brian, we will be well served.

There is no excuse as to why every game is not sold out or at least close to be sold out!
i remember about five or six or more years back that you had to get you tickets weeks before the next game or you were out of luck! that's how it should be now! I actually care about the Falcons! I go even if i am sick or injured i still go and cheer the Falcons on to victory. No matter how cold it is outside my family and i still go! Hell we live in Fostoria but guess what? we still go!
