It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

I agree, Freak! The first step on the road is for BGSU to go 1-11 next year. Good luck!

Re: Congrats MIAMI
He obviouly knows more about Miami than Bowling Green!
Have you EVER been to a BG baseball game? We are going for a FOUR-PEAT in the East Division this year. You must be hanging out with the AD. He doesn't pay any attention to baseball either!
Re: Congrats MIAMI
Mens basketball has also won a MAC regular season title more recently than Miami.
Re: Congrats MIAMI
I was talking about football, hockey and both our basketball teams. Besides our women's team when was the last time our men's 3 big sports won a championship? I know we won a division title under Orr but did we win the MAC championship? NO.
And I admit only been to a handful of baseball games since I graduated. Gone to numerous softball games past 10 years but not so much baseball. But back to my point. When was our last MAC championship in football? How about mens basketball? Or CCHA in hockey?
If Miami can win a MAC championship then why not us?

A ONE win team last year is now MAC Champs. Ok so why not BG. Maybe we can do it next year. Clearly Miami is the class of the MAC whether you want to admit it. Their baseball and softball teams compete. Charlie Coles always plays a brutal non conference schedule in basketball and they win MAC championships. And their hockey has been strong the past 5 years.
Once again congrats MiamÍ
It seems to me that you SPECIFICIALY mentioned baseball and softball!
Re: Congrats MIAMI
Thanks factman. Typo on my part. I meant to say OUR baseball and softball teams compete. I wasn't sure how many MAC championships we won but wanted to give some credit. I wasn't putting down or dissing our baseball, softball or women's basketball. I was specifically concerned about football, hockey and basketball. Point is we need to get our teams back on top. Hockey I understand but I do see us being more competitive and within 2 years I can see us in the top third of the league. Basketball however, Orr has had several recruiting classes. Granted he won a division title but not with many of his recruits. He is now playing with his recruits and we should be seeing better results I was very rough on football this year until I heard we only had 47 scholarship players after attrition and injuries. Brandon did leave the cupboard bare but next year will be Clawson's 3rd recruiting class and should be no excuses anymore.

Didn't BG just win the MAC Men's Basketball title in 2008-2009? they were tied with Buffalo record-wise but I thought they won the tie-breaker. That seems pretty recent.

Yep. But not recent enough for those that don't like for the facts to interfere with their lame arguments. Sort of surprised he is happy that Miller and Company have won 6 straight and he's not complaining about how they should have won back in 2004 because then we would be at 7 straight shooting for eight!h2oville rocket wrote: Didn't BG just win the MAC Men's Basketball title in 2008-2009? they were tied with Buffalo record-wise but I thought they won the tie-breaker. Re: Congrats MIAMI
I don't want to put words in gmartin's mouth, but I think he along with a lot of other people (myself included) are disappointed with where we are in terms competitiveness across our main sports. With football's facility upgrade and the Stroh Center opening up, we should be among the class of the conference in several sports. Instead it seems we are floundering near the bottom in most sports. I don't see us ever returning to CCHA contenders in hockey. Any optimism in football at this point is simply blind faith that Clawson can get this turned around, because I don’t think anyone can look at this years performance and realistically say we are headed to the top of the standings next year. Basketball is frustrating because with winning a championship and having the stroh center opening, we should young but loaded with talent. I think we have talent, but not MAC contending talent. We basically have two teams that compete for titles on a yearly basis. Womens hoops and baseball, pretty much everyone else is bad. We may have hope that we'll improve, but in most cases we are bottom of the standings type teams.
Re: Congrats MIAMI
What program in the MAC has been good consistently in all the major sports?
Central has been very good in football winning 3 of the last 5 MAC titles. While bad in hoops, although that could be changing.
Kent State has been excellent in Mens Basketball, bad in football.
BG in Women's Basketball and Baseball, mixed results in football and basketball.
Where are you getting that Miami has been the be all, end all of the MAC in recent years?
Their basketball program won the tourny in 2007, before that it was 1997. They were excellent from 1992-1999, after that, middle of the road average. Is it because they go out and play name schools in the non conference?
Bowling Green would have a lot better looking basketball schedule if Dayton and Xavier played in BG every other year and got UC home and away in football and neutral site games in basketball.
I don't understand people's fascination with Miami.
They've had a good hockey team, awesome for them.

Re: Congrats MIAMI
Apparently I have a different perspective of what a MAC Championship is. In football to me a MAC Championship is the winner of the title game at Ford Field? When is the last time BG won a MAC Championship in football? And how many has Miami won since our last one?
In basketball a MAC Championship to me is NOT the regular season divisional champ it is who wins the tournament at the Q and advances to the big dance.
I hate Miami nearly as much as Toledo. I was just saying if Miami goes from 1-11 to a MAC Championship then why not us next year.
