Go BG!
These guys truly gave it their all during the first period, and it showed. The first power play we had, we kept it in OSU's zone the entire time. It was one of the best periods of hockey I've seen BGSU play in 6 years. I mean that.
But we couldn't sustain it. We were dog tired in the second, as you pointed out. This ultimately lead to sloppy play and poor penalties. We had more penalties this game than our past three combined.
If our guys can figure out how to spend enough energy to get the job done without killing themselves in one period and spread it over the entire game, we have a team. A good team. I saw flashes of excellence tonight. Too bad the outcome was not what everyone had hoped for.
As an aside... after OSU scored their first goal in the third period with 15:00 remaining, our fans started the scoreboard chant. I turned to a fellow photographer and said "That's gonna come back to bite us in the ass." Looks like it did. I enjoy our fans enthusiasm, but lets not get cocky here.
Oh, and the band started to play twice DURING actual gameplay. Poor execution.
