Most of the other students that I talk to say "oh yeah, aren't they really good or something?". Beyond that, they don't really know anything about BG basketball or our women's team in particular. I think Athletics should be doing quite a bit more than what they currently do to get students informed and excited to come to games. The friends I have who live on campus told me that they heard absolutely NOTHING about hits game in the days leading up to it.

As an "OLD" alum, who went to almost all athletic events while I was at BG, I'd like to know exactly WHAT the current students ARE interested in... The old excuse, "I didn't know there WAS a game" is more than a bit lame IMO. Read the BG News..look at the schedule of events (ALL, not just sporting events).. Most importantly, FOLLOW your teams in all sports if possible...I'm not saying attend every event...but how any current student could say what you've indicated, "oh yeah, aren't they really good or something?" has been living in a CAVE. It's hard for me to fathom that current students would NOT come to games when they've had the chance to do so... of course, I'm sure all our student body is interested in attaining the highest GPA possible, so "games" might take away from study time, right?

Actually, you'd be surprised how many students I know who won't go to games because they have homework or studying to do... When you're paying for school, you tend to want to pass . Part of the problem is that there really isn't a lot going on on campus to push these games. Students aren't listening to the student radio stations, they're listening to their ipods. There aren't table tents, and ads in the BGNews are usually small and inconspicuous. The paper DOES do a nice job of covering the team, but obviously their good coverage isn't drawing in students. Athletics needs to do promotions, talk to RA's, and interact with students directly. Part of the problem is that most students stop listening after hearing "Women's Basketball"! Yeah, that mentality sucks, but it's prevalent among the student body. I've been going to women's games for years, and I've been to every post-season game except one for the last 5 years. I love it, and I try to convince my friends how entertaining this team is. But many of them simply won't look past the fact that it's a women's team, and dismiss it out of hand. It pisses me off, but I don't know what to do about it.

There is no excuse as to why every game is not sold out or at least close to be sold out!
i remember about five or six or more years back that you had to get you tickets weeks before the next game or you were out of luck! that's how it should be now! I actually care about the Falcons! I go even if i am sick or injured i still go and cheer the Falcons on to victory. No matter how cold it is outside my family and i still go! Hell we live in Fostoria but guess what? we still go!

You realize we are talking about women's basketball right, as jg said sadly as soon as you say women's basketball some people out there won't go just because its women's basketball and the stigma has, and no matter how good our team is people aren't going to get over that stigma.

And when was this time where you had to get women's basketball tickets weeks in advance or you were out of luck, that was the case for men's games in the late 80s, 90s, and early 00s from what I've read on here, but I've never been to a women's game here that was sold out

Dustin is either confused or blowing smoke or maybe even a little bit of both. I been attending Women's basketball games since 1980 and my parents even long before that. BG women have NEVER sold out a ballgame. Even when the hosted the first round of the NCAA against Florida or hosted the NIT they still never sold out. We may indeed sell out the Toledo game this year and that will be the first time in program history.

Even so, I believe it has been nearly 10 years since the last time the Men's game sold out. I am sure Grant would know. I do remember the game against Miami where we broke the backboard in warm-ups was a near sell out. Other than that I can only recall two games in the past 15 years that could been sell outs. Wally's senior year at Miami and when BG played MSU.

I can see good crowds the rest of the way this year once the students come back. Personally I think we will draw 2,000 plus for every game with the Toledo game drawing close to 3500 and possibly the last home game for the women drawing 3000

Time flies and I would place the MSU game at 20 years ago - approximately 1990. scUM came in about 10 years ago for a possible sellout if that's what you meant.

I was talking about the men's games about 10 years back or less when if didn't buy your ticket at least a week in advance you were out of luck! However there is no excuse and i mean no excuse as to why more students don't show up for men or women games!

The students have lots of excuses, but few have a valid reason for not supporting their fellow students.
