From what i have read. Haywood is a good guy and well respected. Seems he had a child out of wedlock and the emotions of the holiday season things were blown way out of context. The mother demanded more money for the child and during a confrontation the woman was pushed as Haywood was trying to leave the house. He had to plea to post bond and not stay in jail over the weekend. I think he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. It was a good hire for Pitt

Anytime a coach is arrested on a charge of domestic violence a university needs to let them go. Think what Pitt's rivals will tell recruits if he was still on the job, "In our family we don't hit each other." The event may be blown out of proportion, but its the image that will never sit at any college. Now Pitt is really screwed as there is only a month left in the recruiting season, and no coach in place. Pitt has to expect to be down for the next 2-3 years.

When a man pushes a woman its domestic violence. Period. Its a crime. I see the results on a near daily basis in my line of work- broken orbital sockets, split lips, broken arms and ankles from being pushed off or down steps and on occasion dead women. Don't believe for a minute that it was just a push-would you put your hands on a woman in anger? I can't think of an excuse where it would be OK short of self defense.

H20 what do you do?

PS I would not mind bringing him in as an assistant. He is obviously a great coach and this large blemish should not disqualify him from coaching for the rest of his life. We are not self righteous enough to make this not be the place where he finds renewal. Now if this is a pattern or there are other extenuating circumstances then I would really want to know but I am guessing Pitt vetted him.

EDIT: And domestic violence is bad. Sorry I did not add that.

"Obviously a great coach"? First of all, the word GREAT is the most overused adjective in sports today. Secondly, while he did seemingly "turn around" the Redskin/hawks...ONE year as a winning HC does not make one "Great" IMO.

Its going to be a long time before Haywood coaches at the BCS level again , assistant or HC. He really screwed his life up with this move.

Any other charge would have been better than Domestic Violoence. Drunk driving charge and he problly stays. But DV no way.

Could you imagine Haywood going into a recruits home and looking the Mom in the eye and trying to convince momma that he's the coach that will care for her baby. Forget about that, I wouldn't let this guys anywhere near my Son.

Haywood would not be welcome in any home anytime soon. Pitt had to let him go. In the end they are better off, todd graham is an excellent coach
