Cheerleading support

Post by BGorDeath »

Over break, we had either one or no cheerleaders at the game. Now upon the return from break, there are like 40,000 cheerleader/dance team members there. From one extreme to the other.

As an outside observation, as much as I enjoy seeing scantly clad women jumping and shaking on the middle of the floor, there seems to be too many. Plus, with the extra poundage added to some dance team members over the holiday break (too many fruit cakes, I guess), it is just too darn crowded at the south end during time outs.

More importantly, the new all-girl cheer team is an accident waiting to happen. I see broken bones and bloody noses from this group. It is going to happen.

Lastly, I just wonder if there is some sort of animosity between all three squads. If so, do you think a cat fight might break out? I hope so, with a lot of hair whipping.

Speaking of hair-whipping, did you see the 2 pieces of hair extensions on the floor at halftime?
Good times...

From where I sit, I can't see things like that. I can only hope there wasn't a cat fight. Or maybe I do?

Never, EVER, complain about too many women in short skirts at basketball games....NEVER.

I like the all girl cheer squad. I like the regular cheer squad. I really like the dance team. They could put 5000 of them on the court and I wouldn't complain.

This is a GOOD thing....

Tooo many cheerleaders....*BLECH*

To clarify, I am not complaining about too many young co-eds on the floor.

During the halftime sequence, 2 of the dance team gals lost their hair extension things after twirling around. Several people around us were laughing. I was too, then I started feeling bad about it. I am sure those girls work hard and might have been a bit embarrassed.

Whatever the case, the more people to help cheer on the teams, the better.

Are you saying there was a wardrobe malfunction with the dance team? 8)

I didn't notice the hair extensions falling. Obviously wasn't looking at the ground too much.

I saw them both fly as I was enjoying my halftime Mt. Dew and Twix and to be honest it kind of made me want to spit up a lil bit. . .

Just wanted to let everyone know the scoop about the cheerleaders this season!! I am cheering my fourth and final year as a BGSU cheerleader, and am one of the few "old" people left on the squads. Anyways, just to let you all know, we are excited to be back from break and to cheer on the Falcons!! The reason why the cheerleaders were not present at the games over break has to do with funding. We are grateful to have a large group of freshman cheerleaders and dancers this year, but because of this, our budget could not afford to have all of them stay in the dorms over the break and several of them live out of state. It is difficult to put up mounts and stunts with few people, and also very dangerous without spots!! This was the first year that we were notified we did not have to attend, although those who could proudly supported the team in the stands!!

We do have two cheer squads this year. A co-ed squad that cheers at men's basketball games and an all female squad that cheers at women's basketball games. The dance team also attends both women's and men's basketball games. Sometimes, you will see both squads at the games for additional support or to do halftime performances. (Actually, this weekend both squads may be performing with the dance team at halftime) Usually though, the squads are separate, and for the record there is no animosity or mixed feelings between the squads. We are all spirit members and we all practice and work hard together!! I'm not sure why someone thought that was the case, but we are always up for constructive feedback and your suggestions (that is, as long as you all help us by cheering with us) :) Sorry this was long. Hope to see everyone at the next game!! Go Falcons!!

Wow...that was perky overload.

I totally agree...no pep band or cheerleaders and then BAM! It was like there was too much going on at once at time outs. It made my head hurt.

Anyways...as some of you know I work in the fitness field. I've danced for years and teach a hip hop class at my gym. I think the routines our dance team do are absolutely boring and the music is horrible. As much as I miss dancing and cheering...if you guys would like some help, let me know. I love helping out as much as I can as an Alum.

Well......I'm a cheerleader here not a dancer, but I do practice at the same time as the dance team, and I know that they do work very hard at what they do. I know some of the routines they perform are not always of hip hop style or crowd orientated routines, because I think they want to incorporate all elements of dance into them. I think part of the reason why the routines are often "boring" to you is because the sound system is terrible. It's often hard to even make out what type of music is playing!!

Anyways, as of now, for this Saturday, the BGSU cheerleaders and the dance team are planning to perform at halftime. The routine we have put together is something different and aside from the tradtional stuff you usually see the spirit teams do!! Hope to see you there. I appreciate your comments!
Always there to cheer on the Falcons.......GO BG!!!!
