Explain this one to me. I'm not sure I understand how WKU helps (understand Temple).Schadenfreude wrote:What would it take to interest Dayton and Xavier in the MAC?
The addition of Temple and Western Kentucky would help.

If Temple will bring hoops as well, I'd have no problem with it. I was under the impression that they weren't going to bring their basketball into the MAC, however, and that this was a football only deal.OptionQB wrote:I love the idea of having Temple in the MAC. It puts us on TV from Philly to Chicago (and just beyond) as well as Detroit. Maybe with ESPN U, the MAC could get more exposure with Temple on board. From a basketball perspective, it's absolute gold.
The addition of Temple would give us the bottom 5 teams in D1A on any given year in football...lucky us.

Western Kentucky improves us in basketball, making us more attractive.transfer2BGSU wrote:Explain this one to me. I'm not sure I understand how WKU helps (understand Temple).Schadenfreude wrote:What would it take to interest Dayton and Xavier in the MAC?

[quote="Schadenfreude"]I appreciate the synergy that MTSU could bring with WKU.
But I still support Temple.
As crazy as it sounds, I wonder if there is a chance that our conference could continue to cherry pick the Atlantic 10.
Let me throw this out there: What would it take to interest Dayton and Xavier in the MAC?
The addition of Temple and Western Kentucky would help.
Yeah, I know the objections -- Dayton and Xavier don't have much in common with us, and suddenly this conference gets very big.

Schad,
I may be wrong, but asking Dayton and/or XU into the MAC doesn't make sense to me, unless you're talking BASKETBALL only.... Dayton plays a D-3/D-2 schedule now, I believe...and XU doesn't even have a FB program to my knowledge...so what would we be gaining? Someone else mentioned having the "bottom 5" teams in D-1 FB if we added Temple. It's sad but true that the MAC "bottom feeders" tended to occupy the low spots on the totem pole, and CFU definitely deserved its position. But, with the MAC tougher than ever, does anyone ever think that our "bottom feeders" are better than, say the Sunbelt or WAC low ranked teams because they have to play the BG's,NIU's, and TU' s of the West for example?

I mean all sports but football. I thought that was implied. Dayton is nonscholarship I-AA, and Xavier dropped football years ago.Class of 61 wrote:Schad,

I'm not suggesting this is a good idea. It may be a terrible idea. I like our all sportsness.
But at least it's closer to an option with Temple in the fold than it is otherwise.
If we can land Temple basketball -- and it may not happen, but if we can do it or even project that we might do it -- that makes a statement that could have coattails.
The MAC would be in a *much* better financial situation if we could get multiple bids. Temple and Western Kentucky hoops would get us very close, if not over the top, in that department.
