Rankings Smankings
Re: Rankings Smankings
#20, #22 and #24 have all lost already this week. And yes #24 was Ohio State. TOSU is now 10-6, 1-4 and lost 6 of 7. If they somehow remain ranked next week I am going to puke
A BG win over Kent should place us at #24

Re: Rankings Smankings
Add to that list #23 as losing this week. That makes #20, #22, #23, and #24 all lost this week and still some more tough games including Ohio State facing Michigan State. A BG win will definitely put them in the Top 25. And plus we will once again be tired for the nations longest winning streak in women's basketball

Amen to that...they lost by 11 to a pretty solid Northwestern squad, who is now 14-4. Hopefully #9 Michigan State will make sure OSU loses again.gmartin wrote:#20, #22 and #24 have all lost already this week. And yes #24 was Ohio State. TOSU is now 10-6, 1-4 and lost 6 of 7. I'm a bit concerned that if tosu women lose too many games . . . they may start looking around . . . .
I hate to root for them, but I do wish they will win some more games to keep the AD and fans somewhat satisfied and quiet

We lost nearly all our votes this week, only getting two now. Not a big surprise. Oh and guess what? Ohio St (11-6) is still ranked!!! Beating MSU is the only thing that saved them.

At least we're still getting votes. Losing by 1 to a 13-3 Kent State team on the road should not penalize us but it does. Start another winning streak and get back into first place in the East.

I hear you there Freak, but it's very frustrating. I mean, we lost almost all our votes, and because, why exactly? Because we lost by 1, on the road, to a team that was 12-3? Give me a break! The other teams in and around the top 25 NEVER get punished like that for losing a single game. Not ever. Certainly not against teams with an .800 win percentage.Falconfreak90 wrote:At least we're still getting votes. Losing by 1 to a 13-3 Kent State team on the road should not penalize us but it does. It's also clear as day that everybody is writing us off because of our schedule, and that's just as frustrating. It seems like in women's basketball, the power teams and the committee try to hide behind the RPI and the almighty SOS much more than in men's basketball. You don't see men's teams with 26, 27, and 28 wins being left out of the NCAA tournament like you do in women's basketball. Maybe that's because of the greater media scrutiny that would come with such exclusions, but it's still not right.

Polls mean nothing, however if we win out and lose to Kent again in the MAC Tournament we will be subjected to the Womens NIT. With 11 regualr season games left and 3 to 4 MAC tournament games if the Falcons run the table and lose to Kent again in the MAC Tournament they will have an approximately 27 - 3 record (just guessing) they will be on their way to the womens NIT. The ONLY way a MAC team is going to the NCAA tournament is if they win the MAC tournament period. The odds of two teams going to the NCAA tournament are about zero. So matter how many loses we have in MAC play the winner of the MAC tournament is the Team.
Another reason why I dislike automatic qualifier spots in a four day tournament over a winner of a four month season. Money! Agrument for another day.

It's worth noting that bracketologist Charlie Creme disagrees, and has us as a #12 seed and an at-large bid at the moment. In fact, Kent State isn't in the field, Toledo is, with the auto bid and a #13 seed.unfalconbelievable wrote:Polls mean nothing, however if we win out and lose to Kent again in the MAC Tournament we will be subjected to the Womens NIT. Absolutely agree with ya 24. After all this program has done EVERY year the last 7 or 8 years never gets credit or noticed.bgsufalcon24 wrote:I hear you there Freak, but it's very frustrating. Perfect example of what a joke the AP poll is.
We win our games this past week by an average of 21 pts, including the drubbing we laid on CMU, our RPI is nearly the highest it has been all year, and yet even after our two wins we lose nearly all of our AP votes and fall from #33 to #35. Plus two teams that lost a game last week passed us. And OSU at 12-6 is still ranked. Curious to see how the coaches rank us this week.

Re: Rankings Smankings
See the coaches take notice. BG rises 6 spots and checks in at #27. Iowa lost last night and there should be a few more losses from the bottom 5 top 25 teams. Once again we win both our games, especially with a quality win over Toledo and we will crack the Top 25 coaches poll. Will take some time to get into the AP because that poll is a joke.
Re: Rankings Smankings
+1. HUGE joke. If it wasn't beating a dead horse I would be upset about it. But at some point I guess you just learn to deal with it. At least the coaches respect what we have done year in and year out. Who cares what some sportswriter thinks anyways??gmartin wrote:Perfect example of what a joke the AP poll is.
