Cam Newton was a JUCO player. JUCO's allow you the chance to inject a little bit of talent and a little bit of skill into your roster, but the trade off is there is a reason these guys didn't qualify for college in the first place. Last year was bad, and who is to blame is anybody's guess. This year will reveal more of the story. If we improve and finish near .500 I think we have good reason to be excited for 2012.

Guys: so sorry for the bad rap on Clawson. I'm new at this and just speaking from my heart. I have been a BG fan for awhile and a big GB fan. I'll be nice until the season starts and we'll see how it goes deal? [-o<

Don't apologize...it's your opinion and you're entitled to it. We're all Falcon fans...even the waterboy from Waterville... so what if we disagree on a few details? I was a big GB fan as well, but for all the positives that happened during his tenure, he left us in a bit of a tight spot.

I'm looking forward to the spring game...I really want to see how the OL looks and how much of a battle we'll have between Hurley and Schilz. I think Schilz has he talent to be a all MAC QB, but he was making some curious decisions at the end of the year..
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Don't sleep on Caleb Watkins. I liked what I saw of him in the spring game. I wouldn't be surprised if he improves a ton between now and spring practice and then spring practice and the game at Idaho.

Cam Newton was a JUCO player AFTER he'd been at Florida for a year....just reminding you of that little fact...he went to a JUCO so he wouldn't have to "sit out" a season, then transferred to Auburn...after "daddy's little gambit" didn't work out... I've often wondered why the story about daddy and Miss. St. (coached by a former BG coach incidentally) didn't come out much earlier than about 2/3 of the way thru the season. :-k

It's too early to give a final "grade" on Clawson. While I wouldn't say the cupboards were entirely bare when he arrived, the talent pool was thin and other factors were stacked against him. He's just now pulling out of that quagmire.

While it appears we are headed in the right direction, we will have to be patient to know for sure.

On a side note, I really don't see an inherent problem with bringing in JUCO players. You cannot use them as the cornerstone of your program, but they certainly can help.

I remember when Denny Stolz brought Joe Boxley to BG. He wasn't the best receiver on the team, not by a long shot. But he was probably the best third receiver in the conference (we had Stan Hunter and Greg Meehan at WR and Gerald Bayless at TE) and would have been the #1 or at least #2 on most any other MAC team. He made a big difference in our offense.

So if we can find a player who can fill in for a couple years and contribute, I don't see a problem. When you start relying on JUCOs as foundational players, you get into trouble.

Nah, I just try to balance out the two closet Rocket fans from here that share their Rocket love on the UT board. Only fair that you guys get the benefit of my wisdom, charm and good looks-well, OK, you can't really see that on here but Falcon Fanatic will confirm that I'm sure.

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."
