Here's the first paragraph of the media alert that was sent out today... beyond this, it's all speculation or rumor until tomorrow's press conference:Falcon137 wrote:So this donation is specifically for mens basketball. Correct?
The Bowling Green State University Athletics Department will hold a press conference on Wednesday, Jan. 19 at 6:15 p.m. to announce the single, largest gift in BGSU’s history, designated to benefit the men’s basketball program. The gift is also the largest one-time gift ever designated to a Mid-American Conference basketball program.

We all know who it is. Dan 'the man' Dakich. with all his royalties on the Dan Dakich cheeseburger at Al Mar Lanes and with his radio show and being a big time announcer on ESPN. We should have figured this out earlier.

Grant, please pass along my thanks as well. It is awesome that folks step up and give this kind of money. And for a MAC school, it is even better.

I'm assuming it's a former NBA player. Antonio Daniels maybe? I remember hearing the weekend he was inducted into the BGSU Athletic Hall of Fame that he's closer to the program now that Orr is in charge.

THIS IS GREAT NEWS!!! I can't wait to hear more. If this gift will help us get to the damn NCAA Tournament already (maybe we can pay off the selection committee....just kidding), I will personally kiss the feet of this person if it does.
Also, Transfer, so gymnastics "is" going to used Anderson Arena then? I'm a little confused as I first heard gymnastics was moving to Anderson Arena, then remember hearing they were also going to move to the Stroh too because of something along the lines of Anderson Arena not being able to work after all with its setp (although I believe they have held events in there before if I'm not mistaken). So does this mean gymnastics is moving to Anderson Arena after all? Personally, I would love to see gymnastics move into Anderson Arena to give the building another use because if not, I could sadly see it coming down in the near future without a real home for the actual arena space of the facility.

Yeah. I've read different things and had heard various things. I talked to Greg Christopher before the last home meet and he said that they were definitely going to be in Anderson Arena rather than the Stroh Center. The facility over in Eppler is not a great place to practice. The runway for the vault is elevated and GC does not like that.
He said they were going to go ahead and put some money into redoing the floor area for gymnastics. We'll move the beam and the floor exercise area. I think they need to do some work for the uneven parallel bars as well. The coaches will take over the Volleyball offices when they move into Stroh.
He was looking at the scoreboard and talking about the type of board to purchase that showed team scores and individual scores for the events. It sounds as if we are committed to putting some money into refurbishing the facility.
With needing to do some work on the floor (and probably removing parts of it), I wonder if they'll use a part of the AA floor as a fund raiser?

If you have a personal gripe with him, challenge him to a fight or get over it. I'm sick of hearing you airing your dirty laundry here every time something good happens.
So much I want to say....
Re: HUGE announcement tomorrow!!!
That is great news to hear as well! I honestly don't know much about gymnastics, but I like the idea of them moving into Anderson Arena and calling it home. I hope it works out well for them. Having been to many other campuses across the country, you often see some of the smaller programs call the older facilities home when a new place is built, and honestly, it often works out very well in a lot of cases. I think Anderson Arena would be a good fit for gymnastics. Even if you had to remove some of the bleachers, you would have plenty of seating up above and it could be a very nice venue for a team to call home. It would also put less wear & tear on the Stroh Center and less work having to move equipment all around for events. Glad to hear this.transfer2BGSU wrote:BGSU33 wrote: Also, Transfer, so gymnastics "is" going to used Anderson Arena then? Re: HUGE announcement tomorrow!!!
I don't think so... they aren't allowing any cameras (still or video) into the press conference prior to the game. Apparently, GC will have a shorter press conference at half time to discuss some things, but it will be just him.Falcon137 wrote:Anyone know if the announcement will be streamed?
