Thanks Tony...
I don't know if it's everyone's cup of tea, but for someone like me, this was almost a religious experience. To finally see Nate Thurmond block a shot, grab a rebound, hit a few shots... to see Butch Komives stick a jumper right in someone's face... To see Harold Anderson on the sidelines... To see how Anderson Arena looked when it was new... amazing!
If you're a fan of the program who wasn't around in '63 (most of us) or if you WERE around and just want your memory jogged a little bit, check it out!

As perhaps the ONE regular AZZer who DID see these guys, I can tell you it was a heck of a lot of fun to go to Memorial Hall as it was known 1st.... Thurmond, Junior, Elijah Chatman (Nate's HS teammate), and Ira Harge were all FRESHMEN together...too bad Frosh couldn't play "varsity" then as a lot of folks came to watch these guys play, then "stayed around" for the regular varsity game. I don't doubt for a minute that these guys could've beaten the "regulars". Interesting fact a few years later; Nate was 1st team all-american, Butch made 2nd team and a guy named Ira Harge made 3rd team...but he was at N.Mex. or N.Mex.State by then.... and Wavey Junior dropped out of school (possible grade probs.).... if they could've kept this group together for the full 4 yrs. I think we might have seen a NCAA basketball championship trophy in the trophy case.
Education our Challenge, Excellence our goal. (look it up)

I actually grew up playing basketball with Pat Haley's son and got to know him pretty well. Great guy, with awesome stories about BG and coaching at UD as well as minor league hoops in Dayton.
