Blue jays....
They're kind of the dicks of the bird world, but I think they're just below the Cardinal when it comes to cool looking birds...

They attack my dog fearlessly but a couple years ago we had a Baltimore Oriole kick a bluejay's birdbutt in my backyard while the Cardinals that live in the hedge just watched. I know it sounds like the NL East pennant race but... true story. I gained new respect for Orioles who aren't known for their aggression.

Well, it would be pretty tough to use the obvious baseball analogy if I was a slave to accuracy...
Re: Blue jays....
Flipper, I agree they are a holes to the other bird. I put them just a small step above the Cardinals for appearance. We have 4 bird feeders in our backyard and they do most of the bullying. We only have 2 Blue Jays compared to countless Cardnials that come into our backyard, so you would think a gang up is in order.

Do ten accountants gang up on Brock Lesnar? Don't think so- Jays rule and they know it and the cardinals know it. Your Cards need to hire a raptor to do a hit.

It would be freaking sweet to see a Cardinal handing off some money to a Peregrine, then to see the Peregrine swoop in and take out the two Jays.h2oville rocket wrote:tiznow wrote:Flipper, I agree they are a holes to the other bird. +1. We have a ton of Cardinals. Finches and Blue Jays that hit our feeder off the deck. Cool to watch them now and then.

I was watching them the other day...I was at home because our daughter was home on a snow day and my calendar was open...I'm down with the finches, chickadees, titmice, nuthatches, juncos and cardinals....the blue jays and doves are just too damn pushy.

We have a bunch of juncos around the house. One of my first lessons of homeownership was that "junco" is a bird, "Junko" is a Japanese porn star.
That was an interesting Google Image Search with the in-laws.

Re: Blue jays....
I don't know if any bird money exchange talons, but one evening at my folks house we were watching a blue jay bully all the finches at their feeder. Eventually that jay had the whole yard to himself while the other birds just squawked angrily from the bushes. This made it easy for the red-tailed hawk to decide which bird to hit. I didn't catch the attack but my dad told me to go look up at the top of the telephone pole in the alley. There was the jay having his guts pulled out by a chicken hawk. I can't be sure since I'm not a bird expert, but it sounded like those angry squawks from the bushes turned to taunting giggles.
