My nephew has decided he wants to study journalism. I guess he realized there was no future in his first love, buggy-whip manufacturer.
He asked me if BG had a good journalism program. I said we have two radio stations, a TV station and a newspaper. I think BG has it covered.
Really I don't know though. Can anyone shed a little light on BG as a journalism school?

My nephew is a junior. I look forward to my sister paying for a room so I can show him the campus and/or so he can drive me home from Howard's.

The j-school has changed an awful lot from the time I got my degree.
A lot will depend on what specialization he's looking at. There's a lot of uncertainty in the field, but also opportunity.
That being said, has he considered software development?

Re: BGSU as a journalism school
I started out as a J major, but switched my major to TCOM when I decided to focus on radio. I enjoyed working at the BG News, WFAL, WBGU and BG Radio News. I think my time there prepared me for my first job in radio.
That being said, Karl makes some good points about alternative careers. Journalism is on a decline, at least in the print world. If he has his heart set on it, I'd make sure that he takes classes with other marketable skills, such as web content. I believe the future (and present really) of the field is online/on-demand content. If you can help create that, you'll be solid.
As for me, I am using my BA in Communications as a teacher. Once the radio demand dried up, I had to do other things.
HTH... Good luck to him!

Yes, those were the days. It was very exciting to learn about this new-fangled paper and ink ...
