Second national championship on the ice! Good work, fellow Falcon!

I had no idea who Alissa Czisny was. So, I did a google search. She's a very accomplished figure skater. Then, I noticed some of the images. She's quite the looker as well. Where do I sign-up for her fan club?

What I wonder is, and maybe somebody could fill me in on this, it seems like Alissa has been a top figure skater for quite some time now. Clearly, winning the national title twice is an extremely impressive thing to do, I remembered watching her skate the first time she won it. But what happened to her last year? She's won nationals on both sides of an olympic year and didn't even make it to Vancouver. Was she injured last year or did she just not skate well?

I wonder if she's going to hang on for Sochi in 2014.

IIRC, she underperformed at the trials in 2010 and did not qualify for the Olympics. From what I've read online, she's skating really well this season.

My daughter, a former competitive skater, took me to Natls. in Cleve. 2 yrs. ago when Alissa won it... she didn't skate well last year and thus didn't qualify for the Olympic team.... If any of you follow skating at all, you probably know that there are basically two "types" of skaters among women...the athletic "jumpers", and the smooth, flowing and graceful stylists...Alissa is definitely a part of the 2nd group...Yes, she does have to ...and can.. do the required elements i.e. jumps...but her strengths come from style and flow on the ice. Wish I'd seen Sat.'s finals, but we were out with friends and I completely forgot about them.

Figure skating and gymnastics have to be the most frustrating sports to compete in. You get to spend countless hours drilling the same skills so some bozo in a blue blazer cab dock you a few tenths of a point because they didn't like where your foot landed after a jump...
